On the day the Phoenix Suns played their first Western Conference finals game in more than a decade, Suns general manager James Jones was honored as the league's Executive of the Year.
In a tight vote, which is conducted by the league's executives, Jones got nine first-place votes and had 65 total points, just edging out Utah Jazz vice president of basketball operations Dennis Lindsey, who also had nine first-place votes and finished with 61 points.

I don't get what Utah's GM did that garnered so many votes. That makes me think they believe Favors is the reason the team finished with the best record in the NBA
I think the media just wanted the public to know who gave Gobert $200 million so they know who will be fired immediatelysuns12345 wrote:King4Day wrote:If a mod wants to merge this with Bigfoots thread, that'd be cool.On the day the Phoenix Suns played their first Western Conference finals game in more than a decade, Suns general manager James Jones was honored as the league's Executive of the Year.

What the hell, who did they even sign? bizarre how all these awards seem to arbitrarily reward a good regular season record and then sometimes they don't.

I feel like Exec of the year should be something that gets awarded at the end of the post season. I don't think most awards should be regular season only but rather should include the postseason impact as well and the exec of the year award to me in right up there as a season-as-a-whole type of award. Likewise with Coach of the Year. I mean, where is Thibs now vs where is Monty?

I'm fine with the awards being for regular season. Post season comes with its own rewards.

the point is decisions made for the regular season also impact the playoffs. I don't really know how Utah will resolve the Gobert situation now, since $40mil a year for that in the playoffs is not going to be good.

Its such a hard situation. Value wise you have to pay Gobert market value yet, paying him the max may prove worse than letting him walk.

I think the way it works with extensions nowadays, you really have to be sure that the guys on your team are the guys you really want long-term.

Gobert has been really valuable, and if Conley was completely healthy the whole series they probably win that series. But even if they didn't, I thought the Clips were the best with Kawhi.
I don't think they need to overreact. He's overpaid but I don't know that they'd be better with another C or get the right value back or him.
