What were your greatest & worst moments in your time as a Suns fan?

Post#1 » by King4Day » Fri Jul 2, 2021 2:53 pm

I don't mean, in the teams history. This is to share the moment that made you feel the worst during your time as a fan and the moment that made you feel the best.
Feel free to add video if it's possible.

NOTE: Maybe choose moments before this post season run as I'm sure this will be at the top of some peoples lists.

For me:

Greatest moment: Tim Thomas' 3. The Suns were division champs in 05/06. No Amar'e but favorites against a cruddy Laker team who had Kwame Brown and Smush Paker.
After some heart breaking losses, the Suns found themselves down 3-1. The Media was ALL OVER Kobe and how great he was for leading this garbage team to a possible series win over Phoenix.

This was the game Raja Bell was out/suspended, (for close lining Kobe).
Down 3, we got Nash the ball, who you absolutely want taking a possible game tying shot. He missed, but an offensive rebound led to the ball eventually being kicked to Mr. Last-year-of-his-contract, Tim Thomas. Pump fake, 3. Game tied.
Instead of a series loss, the Suns send it to OT and win. They then go on to blowout LA in game 7. It was a back breaking moment for the Lakers.
The Euphoria I felt hasn't been matched until maybe Paul's 3 with about 6 min left against the Clips.

Worst moment: While the suspensions might have been the worst moment, I always felt we were better than that Dallas team in '06. I think Marion and Kurt Thomas had injuries if I recall correctly.
Had we won, I believe we take out Miami in the finals. Our speed would have made Shaq a relative non-factor.

Best: Goran Dragic game / Nash game 4 against Spurs.

Worst: 12-13 season. Nash gone to the Lakers. Had to watch Shannon Brown/Michael Beasley for a whole season.

Heartbreaking moments: Game 1 Spurs 2008. Game 5 Lakers 2010.

I was heartbroken with Paxson's and Ellie's shots but I was a child so I don't recall them as clearly.

Greatest is harder....probably the Tim Thomas 3...when younger it's hard to remember how I felt, but coming back from down a HUGE deficit (like 20 pts in the 4th) against the higher seeded Rockets on the road in game 2 after stealing game 1 was crazy. Taking down the defending champion healthy Lakers led by MVP Magic in 5 after getting swept in 89 was amazing. The whole 04-05 season was amazing.

Worst - probably blowing game 5 in 95 and game 7 the same year against the Rockets..those hurt badly. Thought we were best team that year. The whole 2007 playoffs.

Amare having a severe career altering injury the summer after he had an epic playoffs against Duncan and looked like a top 3 player in the NBA.

Pretty tough, for there were amazing moments over the last 40+ years as a Suns fan. Some of my best memories were going to games at the Mad House, and listening to Al on am radio when I couldn't watch a game. Watching players mature like Ced and Nash.

Heart breaking moments was watching KJ get hurt celebrating an amazing shot, or watching KJ get thrown to the ground by Eaton, and have the commentators say it was good defense. Decades of watching no calls on one end, and ticky tacky fouls on the other end has pissed me off.

The season where Nash and Diaw led a team that lost its best finisher, go deep in the playoffs was an amazing season. I loved getting Grant Hill, and if we had used Nash and Hill correctly where one was always on the floor running the offense, I feel we could have won a chip. I loved the 2010 team. Best chemistry team we had ever had. It was amazing watching starters pump up their back ups.

The Rex Chapman shot was simply amazing. Watched that downtown at the sports bar after work (worked downtown). Bartending for Nash and Kidd one night at Lombardi's downtown was pretty special. My best memory and what launched my fandom, was shooting hoops against Westphal.

Worst - Mario Elie's 3 and "kiss of death". That sucked to see. Even the Paxson finals shot didn't hurt as much.

Highs-this playoff run has me feeling great. Its unexpected and I'm still in shock.
Nash's first year back in phoenix, running ssol, amare developing into one of the best bigs in the league. That playoff series against the mavs was alot of fun.

Lows- as BW said, that summer of 05, news of Amares knee was just a gut punch. I dont think anyone had come back successfully from microfracture at that point. I was so depressed. He came back but he wasnt close to what he was. He didnt attack and didnt have the hang time after the surgery. Devin wouldn't have broken so many of these scoring records if amare didnt have those knee problems. We also win it all in 06 and 07 with explosive amare on his development path.

Highest: This is probably the greatest for me.
Lowest: Finding out Amare/Diaw were suspended closely followed by the Artest putback.

But I think overall one of the worst things about being a Suns fan (in Australia anyway) is any time you see a shop or online retailer selling NBA merch and you have a look, there's a 90% chance it's only Laker, Bulls, Warriors or an Aussie player's merch. Guaranteed there's Laker and Bulls merch. There was a shop I walked into a few weeks ago at a shopping centre I haven't been before and they were selling NBA stuff and I saw some "retro" Suns/Nash gear which was pretty cool to see but on a massive wall full of caps (probably 150 caps) there was only one Suns cap I could see.

Every time I look at a store or online retailer and they have like 2-3 or no Suns gear, despite the Suns making the Finals:

Highest: SSOL regular season from 2004 -2007, 2006 Suns PS series against the Lakers, Suns sweeping the Spurs in the 2010 post season, this year's post season

Lowest: 94 PS loss to Rockets, 95 PS loss to Rockets, 2005 PS loss to Spurs, 2006 PS loss to Mavs, 2007 PS loss to Spurs (maybe my lowest), 2008 PS loss to Spurs (that Duncan 3 was understatedly soul crushing), 2010 PS loss to Lakers, Luka Doncic immediately proving to be a transcendent talent and Ayton getting suspended for banned sunstance (maybe my lowest)

Greatest: 1976 The Suns beat GS the previous years champion to go to the finals against Boston. Game 7 was unbelievable. Like half the valley who watched that game, I showed up at the airport with friends to meet the Suns when they came back. It was an insane atmosphere. I recall seeing a Hertz rent-a-car in the terminal as an exhibit that was crushed by people standing on it to see Ricky Sobers, Alvin and that great team.

Worst: Paxon.

This Game 5 might be the worst of all. What an absolute sucker punch. I might need therapy to recover from this.

Anyone got the 21 finals as a worst moment?

Still not sad enough to create a new account just for trolling.

Nope. Sending the clips packing on the way to the finals was amazing. You wouldn't know anything about the finals being a clippers fan, yet here you are trolling. All 4 of your posts are baiting our fan base. I doubt this ends well for you.

Nah, but the only thing better than beating the Lakers in Game 6 in LA was probably beating the Clippers in Game 6, also in LA.
