The uniform is cool, but it's weird that we are going with an Aztec vibe when the Aztec have no connection to Phoenix or Arizona whatsoever. Why not go with actual Arizona Natives like the Navajo, Hopi, etc.?

I like those. I suppose that means it would replace The Valley ones though or maybe not...The Valley is an alternate and this is one of the 3 primary ones?

I thought it was odd too, but reading the article it sounds like we're going for Mexican fans, which makes sense for a business perspective since we always have those Mexico City games. An actual Arizona Native theme would be better though. And just a better design in general...I think the black/purple color scheme has potential but they just look like plain uniforms with a difficult to see and stereotypical Aztec/Mayan/Olmec gray design. Lame. They can do much better than this. How about Anasazi and put some alien stuff on it? :D

Wonder if the "sun" and "stone" text in the pic means there are two others they're going to ask the fans opinion on?

Yeah, except that's just frankly not true. The Aztec were not the early ancestors of the Valley. That would be the Hohokam. I'm sorry, I'm a history teacher and I'm not gonna let this go. :D

I get going for Mexican fans, and I think that's a great market to tap, but I think making an ahistoric connection to a people in order to sell some shirts is pretty silly.

To put it in perspective how silly it is, it's a shorter drive to Vancouver from Phoenix than it is to Mexico City, which is where the Aztec capital was located. I understand there are more cultural connections between Arizona and Mexico, but there are other ways to emphasize that that aren't this.

Not to put too fine of a point on it, but the ruins just outside of Mexico City, Teotihuacan, pre-date the Aztec but literally have a huge pyramid called the Temple of the Sun. How they didn't run with that.....I have no idea. At least there would be more of a connection there than "Hey look Mexicans, AZTEC STUFF!"

Though, thinking of that, there could be some cool 5th Sun tie ins. If anyone isn't up to date on their Aztec lore, the Aztec believed that there were 4 previous ages, defined by a unique sun, that were ultimately destroyed, so the gods came together to make a 5th sun that would last.

You could make some pretty sweet tie ins to this team being the Era of the 5th Sun.
1st Sun - 70s Finals team
2nd Sun - Late 80s/early 90s playoff runs
3rd Sun- Barkley Era
4th Sun - SSOL
5th Sun - Current Team

Definitely better than Los Suns.

The aztec lines should glow in the dark or something.

The design was inspired by Aztec Sun Stones (calendars). So while Barkley is correct on the Aztec not being inhabitants of Phoenix/AZ, the whole "Suns" vibe is conveyed.

They probably could've opted for a more AZ-related tribe. The Hopi seem to have a Sun-spirit/creator called Tawa Image
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

I vote reflective instead so that a portion of the pattern shimmered every time a player moved/the light shifted, etc.

Think the NBA would allow us to add little rhinestones? Miniature LEDs? Maybe the pyramids could be mirrors. Think it would distract from the basketball if they handed out ayahuasca to the 18+ fans? Blacked out the arena for a split second for a quick laser light show every time the home team scored?
