Kind of a weird player.

This link shows everything...his preseason, summer league, college and international stats.

Since his most recent extensive experience was international (scroll down to bottom) I looked at that. His 3pt% seemed all over the place, but if you look at when his clubs of the last two years were in the BCL league, the 3 pt % was solid, but then when the club played in other leagues, it dropped. Not sure if that is an easier league or what.

He never scored much..like a 10/4/2 guy but did get 1-2 steals a game. Maybe like a 3&D SG?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/ca.nba.com/amp/news/who-is-ishmail-wainright-fast-facts-on-toronto-raptors-latest-reported-signing/1ld612jcjzo2z1i056f5siknxp

26 yrs old. 6'5 235 lbs with a 7'1 wingspan.

During the 2020-21 season, the 26-year-old was linked to the Raptors amidst their frontcourt issues, but the two sides have finally reportedly come to a deal this offseason. Wainright is listed on Toronto's Summer League roster, so fans won't have to wait long to see the team's newest addition in action.

But who is Wainright and what does he bring to the Raptors?

Wainright was born on Sept. 12, 1994 and is from Kansas City, MO. He attended basketball powerhouse prep high school Montrose Christian in Maryland and was the 60th-ranked player in the ESPN Top 100 for the class of 2013.

Wainright chose Baylor University over offers from schools like St. John's, Texas and Ohio State.

He stands at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds with a 7-foot-1 wingspan.

College Experience

Wainright was a four-year college basketball player at Baylor. While he never averaged more than six points per game over his four seasons, his defensive impact allowed him to appear in over 30 games every year in college, becoming an every-day starter by his junior and senior seasons.

As a senior, Wainright averaged 5.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals over 35 starts. He was a 41.8 percent shooter from the field and 33.1 percent shooter from 3 over the course of his career, knocking down an impressive 40.6 percent of his 69 3-point attempts as a junior.

His prowess on the defensive end helped earn him Big-12 All-Defensive Team honours his senior year.

Following four seasons of basketball, Wainright elected to play one season of football at Baylor. As a tight end for a high-major Division-I program, he hauled in four catches for 34 yards and two touchdowns.

Professional career

Wainright was signed by the Buffalo Bills following his lone football season but eventually chose to hang up the cleats and return to the hardwood.

He played professional basketball for two seasons in Germany, averaging 12.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for the Nuremberg Falcons BC of the lower Bundesliga before signing a deal with SC Rasta Vechta of the Bundesliga. There, he averaged 10.4 points and 5.7 rebounds, thus earning a deal with SIG Strasbourg of the France LNB Pro A.

This past season with SIG Strasbourg, Wainright averaged 11.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game, adding a versatile and physical presence on the wing.

Wainright fits the bill of what the Raptors are aiming for this offseason – long and athletic players who can defend multiple positions.

So he's athletic, strong with a long wingspan and pretty solid perimeter and multipositional defense. And a decent But not elite shooter. And he's gotta be strong/ tough if he played football and was drafted for the NFL. At least I'd have to think so. I think the Suns are experimenting to see if he can maybe be a PJ Tucker for us on defense??

Reminds me of Ish Smith and the show "Wayne" on Amazon. If you like different kind of shows, Wayne was a pretty fun show. It's about some completely carefree older kid who makes a trip across the states with a girl....it is a violent comedy, though some of the humor is a bit ridiculous.

The trailer's at least worth a watch...made me laugh a bit even though I've already watched..

For what I have seen he is more of a Point PF, or at least that is the way he plays when he has a big role on his team.

With an small role I think he will be a 3&D PF who can handle a bit and switch on defense through 2 to 5.

He is 6'5 but he is built like a tank.

If Ish could contribute at least half of what Craig gave us then I'll be pleasantly happy. He looks like a tank so if we need some hard fouls or a big body down low then that's perfect for our team. Either way he cannot be worse than Damion Jones, right?

Boy does James Jones have a type…

Hopefully he can contribute in a game or two somewhere down the line. Maybe a solid 13th man in case of injuries.

Suns hoping this dude is Jae Crowder with ball handling ability. As much work as he's put in with his shot, he needs to put in a whole lot more.

Dude's about as stacked a ball player as I've ever seen. Good-ness!

How crazy is this!!!

Xin Varlock (@XinNBA) Tweeted:
Ish Wainwright is now putting up 0.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.3 assists on 9/0/0 shooting splits (8.4% true shooting).

He leads the Suns in net rating at +19.7.

Had a great dunk. Tipped some rebounds. Team was super excited when he hit a three - because he can't hit threes.

Not an NBA player. Just, no.

10 points with 2 blocks playing small ball C in the last game. He really helped to win the game with his mobility.

I think he has earned his spot and he is gonna be a Sun at least for the rest of the year.

He can play at most in 50 RS games, no need to convert his contract like in the past.
