LeBron James in a Suns uni? Hit the gas or hard pass?

Post#1 » by SkyBill40 » Wed Mar 23, 2022 2:22 am

Fellow Suns fans,

I just happened across this sheer lunacy:

https://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/nba/suns/2022/03/22/lebron-james-needs-traded-phoenix-suns-charles-oakley-says/7133472001/

What it might take, per Oakley: Phoenix could move Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson and Deandre Ayton in the summer for James.

Seem like a lot to you? I know this is all for folly but I see the ask as far too great no matter what James might be able to bring, be it on the court or in ticket sales. I personally think he would disrupt everything we've worked so hard to develop. We all know that he does have a tight relationship with Chris Paul and a developing one in Devin Booker.

What say you? Pull the trigger or laugh and hang up the phone?

I literally have ZERO desire for Lebron to be on the Suns but after reading the article, I want him even less, if that's even possible.

“I just feel bad for him, the situation that’s going on in LA right now," Oakley said on the March 14 episode of Club Shay Shay hosted by Shannon Sharpe. "… He deserves better than that. I don’t know what’s going to happen. He might have to get out of LA. I hate the fans to hear me say that. He needs a ring. He needs a ring and I think that he might have to leave to get it. And the two places that he can probably get it in right now is either Phoenix or Philadelphia."

1. The situation he's in is almost entirely his doing. He's LeGM after all and as much as he or anyone close to him would deny his role in putting together the roster they have today, we all know he's basically co-GM/co-coach and nothing gets down without his knowledge.

2. The guy has won 4 championship titles under his belt, 4 x Finals MVP, 4x MVP and a trophy room full of other NBA achievements. HE, of all people, do not need nor deserve a ring.

3. As much as we play in a CP3 oriented system, this team isn't built for CP3. It's built to run with or without him. In a LeBron team, he is THE team and he will wheel and deal anyone that doesn't fit HIS needs and HIS style of play. And as we've seen time and time again, his teams more often than not completely collapses without him. I have no desire for Lebron to come in, piss around to make it "his" team and run off at the first sign of trouble/hardship.

4. For a deal with LA to take place, we're going to have to give up at least 2 of our young guys. For a player who probably only has a few years left, I'd prefer to build a dynasty with our young guys rather than a one-hit wonder with Lebron.

Yeah, we are not giving up Bridges, CamJo, and Ayton for Lebron. Crowder at the most and a protected first. I hope Lebron doesn't mind coming off the bench behind CamJo. ;)

Full stop. Hard no. Stop giving Oakley attention.

After looking it at it again, I didn't realize it said Ayton as well as Bridges and Johnson. That's an utterly asinine non-starter of a conversation. As has been said, James deserves absolutely nothing. He's an individual play playing a team sport. For years, he's been the guy who makes the show go but, as we've seen in LA, that show has become a tragic comedy.

We'd be mortgaging our future for a short term run with him. Besides, why in the hell would we trade our key youth to both a division and conference rival? The Lakers are our sworn enemy.

Oakley should be glad he's retired, else he'd be getting a drug test first thing tomorrow morning.

I have been a Suns fan for a very long time and I’ve never had as much fun being a fan as the last two years. We’re just a such a likable team that plays hard basically every night and well coached. It’s crazy to say this but even if the Suns don’t win a title this year, I’ll still be grateful as a fan for how it’s been the last two years.

Bringing a guy a narcissistic “king” like LeBron James here would just negate all and every bit of it.

The team immediately becomes all about him and the media will suddenly start blaming and and bashing every teammate of his when they have a bad game while absolving LeBron of anything. And LeBron’s passive aggressive behavior is actually widely responsible for it.

Don’t get me wrong, we may win a ring with LeBron. But I’m not sure I’d enjoy the journey to get there. Lakers won a ring with LeBron but many Lakers fans I’ve spoke with here in California have not enjoyed the 3 years he’s been with the team and would be willing to give back the ring to have their young nucleus from before instead.

It’s a no thank you from me.

I would not trade Ayton for him straight up. Bridges either. In fact, unless he is nearly free and wants to come off the bench--no.

Omg yes. This would absolutely be incredible to further Lebrons legacy. I could care less about the homegrown talent in Ayton Bridges and Cam. I’d mostly prefer to keep the picks instead of potentially swapping those instead of trading one of Ayton, Bridges or Cam. But actually, I think the Lakers don’t make that trade unless we include maybe three unprotected picks since they would be taking a lot of risks in long term contracts.

Think about the talent omg

I think that LeBron James is an amazing player BUT that offer is crazy. No way.

Hell no. Unless he wants to take the vet minimum, there is no way I want them to break up this core group. That is stupid.

I wouldn't want to trade for him, but in the back of my head I know that every team he has chosen to go to has won a chip. Miami, Clev, LAL.

That tells me Oakley is playing GM without knowing anything about our team.

If he wants to play with sending LeBron to the Suns, that's fine. But offering Bridges, Ayton, and Cam? Is he nuts?
IF we were to do something, I'm sending Shammet, Saric, a couple firsts and we'd have to find cap fillers. I guess DA would have to be the one to go but I'm not doing any of that.
Wait until he's a FA and then sign him for cheap. And I only do that if we haven't won a ring yet.

I would say not only no but hell no. Right now Lebron is a ghost of his past self and showing time and time again that he cant bring it every night. If the lakers even make it into the playoff they are going to be a 1st round exit.
Just say no to idiots!!

Let’s put it this way I would rather pay these high a$$ prices to fill up my car than ever have lebron on the suns.

Your last line is exactly what I am thinking.
