Keep or Trade Devin Booker in the off season?

Post#1 » by Puff » Fri Feb 21, 2025 10:30 pm

I think this is our biggest decision in the off season. KD is almost a guarantee to be traded.

What about Book? Slim suggests that we trade him and quite frankly I agree at this point. However, I think the return that Slim suggests is more than we will be able to get.

Chew on these numbers.

The Suns win loss record since Book joined the Suns is 34.8%
With Monty as his coach 62.7%
With Monty as coach and CP3 as the PG 67.7%
Post Monty and CP3 54.7% - the last two seasons and getting worse by the day

Our current demise started with the acquisition of KD. The real fact is that Book has been a loser without Monty as his coach and CP3 as his PG. We even won a playoff series in Monty's last year with KD and CP3, by beating the clippers in the 1st round and losing in 6 games to the eventual champions, Denver Nuggets.

How much blame should Booker receive for the current dismal state that this franchise is in?

Is Booker an elite player in this league?

Trade everyone but Dunn.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Trade.

To Orlando for Franz or Paolo and picks.
To Houston for Amen, Jabari.
To SAS for Castle, Sochan and picks.
To Minny for Ant.
To Atlanta for Trae and picks.
To OKC for JDubb, Hartenstein, Topic and picks.

Blow it up and see how many picks and young players you can get in return and try the OKC model and fire JJ and hire an actual GM that knows how to build a team.

A few years ago I would have said Booker is untouchable but after a couple years I have changed my mind on this since he doesn't care about winning and deflects from his responsibility as a leader of this team.

I would add Gillespie and consider Oso and Bol Bol. Of course, none of those guys play. Why not. The ones Bud consistently plays, consistently suck.

Whiles we are at it. Who should be our next head coach?

Slim, is that hot shot you have always pimped still in Miami?

Chris Quinn.

He is......but IF we trade for HOU guys via Booker/KD then maybe grabbing someone off their bench would be the move. As you might remember, I also pimped hiring Ime Udoka when Boston cut him. Getting someone familar with Jalen Green/Jabari/Amen/Eason/etc would be a good move. If we go that route.

I'm also fine with keeping Bud and seeing what he can do with guys who care more.

Most of these trades if not all are unrealistic for top 7 player by salary who didn't even make ASG. Especially after a disastrous season showing Booker is not a huge difference maker.

90% chance Ishbia keeps him and Suns threadmil for next 4-5 seasons while watching other teams select young players in the lottery with their picks.

All these trades are unrealistic, too good for the Suns.

I am pretty sure that there is a certain package that will be on the table at the end of this season.

FVV (Team Option at $45M)
Jabari Smith Jr
Whitmore
Suns Picks (25 swap, 27 unprotected, 29 swap).

Not sure if I would do it but that's a realistic trade available. FVV would be a good starter on a huge expiring and Smith+Whitmore have untapped potential.

I'll do that for KD. Booker, we can get more I think.

The two I would do in a heartbeat is Houston and OKC. I think those are realistic

Maybe do a Booker to OKC for JDubb, Hartenstein and picks
KD to Houston for FVV, Green, and picks

run

FVV
Green
JDubb
Dunn
Hartenstein

That would be a fun team to watch play, I bet they would hustle and FVV can be the vocal leader

Sadly the league has become a 3PT chuck fest and Book as ASG 3PT champion is not even good at chucking 3s while being a one dimensional scorer. Better get someone else as a face of the franchise.

Look for a team in desperate need of what they think is their go to scorer. Get all you can out of them.

As we see year after year Devin is not a first option and needs a truly special player like CP3 to make him a perfect second. Other than mid range jump shots there's tons of other guys in the league who surpass him in athleticism, decision making, passing, defense, steals, three point shooting, hustle/heart.

These polls are meaningless though. Trade him for what ? Joel Embiid ? I don't want him traded just to get him traded. My best case scenario was trading him + picks for a true superstar.

Voted keep, as long as he wants to be in Phoenix. I'm stupidly loyal.

But I understand if he's traded, as long as it's a blow it up situation.

I think the real problem in trading Booker is who we have negotiating the trade.

I have liked Booker like most everyone else. I guess he is a legit fan favorite. Unfortunately, when he has been given the chance to lead this franchise he has failed. Our only real success during his time in Phoenix was when CP3 was our PG.

Why would we trust him to lead us after trading KD?

I know Ishbia has been our biggest problem, but which player is stopping us from performing up to expectations?

Who has created the Toxic clubhouse? Nurkic is gone and it appears we have gotten worse, really worse.

Booker just does not and has not appeared to be a leader on or off the court. However, in his defense when we had the twins I remember the team hanging out at his crib. That probably did a lot of good. I don't think that is happening anymore.
