Welcome to the Phoenix Suns: Koby Brea!

https://www.noceilingsnba.com/p/the-complex-simplicity-of-koby-brea

ChatGPT summary if you don't have time to read:

The One-Sentence Test: NBA scouts often say if you can't succinctly explain why a player belongs in the NBA, they probably don’t. For Koby Brea, that pitch is: “One of the greatest shooters in the world, 6’6”, and a smart passer.”

Truly Elite Shooting: Brea is a special shooter with elite efficiency (49.8% from 3) and volume (12.9 3PA per 100 possessions). His mechanics are consistent, and his shot versatility includes pull-ups, off-movement shots, and sidesteps.

Smart and Trustworthy: He’s a low-mistake, intelligent ball mover. While not a creator, he’s effective within an offense—averaging low turnovers and showing good passing instincts.

Limited Offensive Usage: Despite his shooting, Brea has never had a usage rate over 20% in college, indicating he’s more of a complementary player than a primary or secondary option.

Poor Finishing & Athleticism: Brea rarely attacks the rim and struggles when he does (43.3% at the rim). He lacks vertical pop and had just one dunk last season—a red flag for NBA wings.

Defensive Concerns: Defensively, he’s slow laterally, lacks burst and strength, and doesn’t make plays (career STL% and BLK% of 1.0). He’ll be a liability against both guards and wings at the NBA level.

Concerning Statistical Profile: He checks several red-flag boxes—low usage, poor rim finishing, low stocks, and minimal dunks—but there are successful NBA players (e.g., Gary Trent Jr., Luke Kennard) with similar pre-draft profiles.

The Case for Draftability: While Brea has a hard statistical ceiling, his elite shooting and reliability may make him a viable bench contributor. In today’s NBA, “low-maintenance shooter” is still a valuable archetype.

Changing NBA Context: The NBA continues to favor high-volume three-point shooters. As long as teams want spacing and decision-making over isolation scoring, players like Brea have a real chance to stick—at least in regular-season rotations.

Final Verdict: Brea won’t be a star, and his flaws are real, but his outlier-level shooting gives him a real shot at earning a two-way contract and potentially carving out a long-term role as a floor-spacing role player.

Now we can get rid of Grayson Allen
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

I'd rather we don't, but the two of them together would be lethal in terms of shooting from range.

Not expecting much to be honest, but if he can come in and make a couple of threes here and there, that would be nice. If he cracks the rotation I'd be surprised. He has a crucial skillset being able to shoot, but ideally this summer he starts working on other facets of his game.

I cannot watch a team with both Dillon Brooks and Grayson Allen. Too much douchery.

I now want to keep both of them, and then possibly sign CP3 again.

I'm perfectly fine to send Brooks elsewhere for other talent, specifically a PG. As far as Draymond is concerned, it would come as no surprise if we somehow landed him given the MSU connection. It's pretty easy to hate Ishbia for being a jackass; that kind of move just clears the path further.

Fitting he was drafted with GSW pick. In one of the videos turns before the shot goes in like Curry. Likely an ASG 3PT champion in the future.

Yeah I'm not expecting a ton. He's a bit of a one trick pony and if he isn't able to be a reliable 3PT shooter then he's not going to be in the league for long. FWIW, I was pretty high on Jalen Bridges last season after we picked him up in the UDFA heap. Loved his ability to shoot, defend, loved his physical profile and I really thought he'd carve out a role but the guy just couldn't hit his shots when he had the opportunity. If Brea can't hit his shots when called upon, he just doesn't bring enough to the table to stick around

I want gritty defenders, too... just not dirty ones. Brooks is a punk. And we can certainly do better than him as he's really not needed position wise. But I understand the appeal.

Hopefully this guy can get a name change and hopefully he can be our Pike or something. I'm good with that. Run and gun, bombs away

Not too happy with this pick to be honest.

We should have taken a point guard at this point not a 1 dimensional player in the mold of Damion Lee.

PG made more sense, but he's in a different territory than Lee(more like Curry, Klay) when it comes to 3PT shooting coming out of college.

Needs to add weight as listed at 174lb is low. He'll need to add strength and develop other facets of his game in addition to shooting where he'll be among the best in the league.

I'm showing my age but I also severely dislike Brooks. BUT, I also hated dirty players like Xavier Mcdaniel, Kurt Rambis, Danny Ainge, Jae Crowder, Chris Paul, Grayson Allen...... And wound up loving the grit and edge they brought to my team. I'm hoping Brooks makes me think the same because, I really hate that dude right now. I would also be ok passing him to someone else right now.

Last minute daggers I can see. But last shot of game duties will be Book or Green.

Maybe he won't hit it early as a rookie, but if we need a three to win a game - this guy can do it.
