what was all the Kerr hoopla about Sean Marks?

Early this season after we got rid of Kurt, Kerr and the FO made it sound like we had a wonderful replacement for Kurt, and his name was Sean Marks.
Now we see him riding the bench after Skinner.
What was that overselling / hype about Sean Marks to the press and the fans about?
Why even try to promote Sean as something exciting when we all knew he was going to be riding the bench much like Burke was?
Was that just bad marketing / PR by the Suns FO or were they serious about Sean Marks?

I think he thought that Marks was going to give us what Skinner is now giving us. We did have Kurt's replacement it was just Skinner not Marks.

Kerr thought fans are dumb.
Marks has been in the league for 8 years, but has yet to play a single second during the playoffs. That despite being on a playoff team the last 6 years. The guy played 17 minutes all of last season. I don't know what's Kerr was thinking when he said he's going to surprise alot of people...it sure is a surprise by itself that we gave him another year...

Yeah, nothing but pure BS from the front office. Kerr has been a lot better since those ridiculous comments, though.

Trying to save face after a bad move. Remember this was before we signed Skinner so there was a good chance (at that stage) Marks would've been getting the mins Skinner is.
I actually don't think Marks is *that* bad but he's def there just for insurance. I think he would def see decent mins on a team like say Milwaukee or something.
They were def overselling him tho to cover a move that was purely based on money.

the standard front office spin....LilStevie was just chiming in on the coat tails of spinmasta-mikeyD. He's seen it work before.
These guys spew to cover their arses, then phnx fanbase soaks it up and with passionless nods are, grateful for an explanation to boister their psuedo hope. The yesman media, so carefully conditioned by the ColonJello reign still look to be spoonfed by the brass, rather than digging in and dishing out some real meat.

the FO is full of idiots as we can tell now. Kerr was smoking the stache from DA and that is why he spun it that way. Lets get this right. Now I love skinner, but I still think KT is the better post defender and rebounder than skinner. Also, Burke was the better player than marks. Burke can hit the 3, and has more gurth to him. After this year, marks is done in the nba.

Except that, Burke had stone hands, horrible footwork and DOESNT EVEN PLAY IN THE NBA NOW

F*ckin Burke...
That's all I said everytime his bald head stepped on the court. I don't have that same response with Marks. Pike on the other hand...

Man, Pike is kinda useless at this point in his career...

Except Burke wasn't completely ineffective when he came in....

Marks hasn't been terrible when he's in. He is amazingly foul-prone, but he gets boards (6 in 14 minutes last night), has a decent shot (almost 60% when he's let in) and gets and odd steal. Even averaged 1.5 blocks over the last five games.
So really, he's suffering more from Skinner's good play at C, and Diaw's inexplicable hold onto a rotation spot. As a GM, Kerr shouldn't have made him sound like the next coming of Sir Charles, but from what I've seen, he's turned himself into a reasonable rotation player.
