Hm, I used to be a huge Zo fan before he got "traded" from New Jersey to the Raptors in the worst trade of all times and refused to play for Toronto, thereby forcing them to buy him out. Still, of course, I feel sorry for him now, this is not how his career should have ended. This guy had so many awful things to go through during his time in the league, and it's really impressive that he always somehow managed to come back.
Looking at Gary Payton I never understood why he didn't just retire after he finally got his ring with the Heat. Mourning, on the other hand, I guess still felt like he had something to prove to himself since he missed so many games over the years. Too bad it has to end like this now, just hope for him that it will not handicap him for the rest of his life. He had a good career, but just imagine what Alonzo might have achieved if not for all of his health issues.

At least he got a ring. They guy gave his all on both ends. It would be nice to have a player like him.

a warrior who wouldn't play for the team he was traded to. A warrior who basically rode the pine to his championship. sigh. If zo retired in 04 i would still have respect for him

He was a beast...he helped make basketball my favourite sport with LJ and Muggsy, Sir Charles and KJ...
Great vet, apart from the injuries and the trade fiasco.

He probably does this for the Heat I'd think...you can't trade a retired player but you can trade a injured player.

agreed, im sure hes retiring, but delaying the announcement for personal or team related reasons
if he did retire tho, couldnt the heat get a disabled player exception for him?
for the record, he is one of my most despised players and im not sad in the slightest that his career is over
unfortunate it was through injury, but i dont miss him and his fake BS emotion

exact the time when i fell in love with b-ball....
i remember the first bball game i watched on tv was when the blazers and suns fight for a win...
the game ended after 2 overtimes and was like 150 : 160...
the suns took a win, and i was in love with the organization...
and remember the nba jam game, grandma johnson and zo rocked every other team in the world..
man i love this game

Lol sounds like you might be right mkot, and they realised that after he made that announcement on the website. Keeping him on the books as a injured player, just in case they need him as filler in a trade..

He is now officially a piece of disposable meat to Miami.
Good thing he did all he could to end his career with dignity when he walked himself off the court...

^ I'd have to go with Nique, The Plastic Man and (insert other Atlanta player here...most likely Mookie). Just loved to play with those guys on NBA Jam, this game actually made me become a huge fan of Wilkins, who's still my all-time favorite player

Stacey Augmon was one of my favourite players too - that guy had arms up the wazoo
