Are the Suns trying to get into the middle of the Jason Kidd trade by trading there exception or exceptions from the KT Deal from Seattle 8 Million and another one I believe they have via Orlando.

What I am saying is the Suns trying to trade there exceptions possibly 10 million to whomever for a draft pick to off set salaries for to the team that would be acquiring Jason Kidd. Are they trying to be the 3rd wheel in the trade?

suns can use the exception to be a facilitator in any deal, so i expect more talk about this at the trade deadline, but my bet is on the exception going unused to save $$

It would not cost the Suns any money Just add picks or rights to Euro players, just would help others out.

doesnt work that way, the only way a team gets any of that exception is if we receive "x" amount of salary more than what we send out in a trade, then the other team gets an exception from us for that amount.

so in order to give someone our exception, we must receive a player worth the amount of exception the other team needs

SUNS are out of the Kidd sweepstakes.

That's probably why they would be talking to Riley if the Miami thread has any juice. As a third party in a 3 team deal. You would think that for that to happen we would have to get someone more talented or much cheaper than KT. If they were willing to take on salary for a mediocre player they would have kept KT and the picks.

does ANYONE remember what we gave up in order to get this exemption?

the ONLY way the suns use it is if they get something for free that has the value of 2 first rounders. otherwise they are stupid, and should have just held onto KT and their picks.

that exemption is going to expire people. no way the suns get in on ANY deal and use it. they already look like fools for what they did to get it, and they'd look even more foolish using it on some subpar talent.

Seriously, why are there so many of these Kidd to the Suns thread? One, he makes WAY too much money. Two, there's no way he'd be ok playing 20 minutes a game backing up Steve Nash. Three, the guy can't shoot worth crap and is a shell of his former self. He's still a good rebounder and passer but he's a turnover machine these days.

No more Jason Kidd threads please.

Well...keep in mind, the guy he'd be backing up is LEADING the league in Turnovers. So that isn't exactly a deciding factor for being a great point guard. Plus, Kidd is very good defensively.

Have to agree. I think it's a bit of insurance just in case Marion doesn't take up his option. They would then be able to take on quite a bit of salary and along with the MLE they could sign 2 pretty decent players to attempt to make up for his loss (they would still be down on salary compared to if Marion took up the option). 8m TPE + 6m MLE ... it's not worth using the TPE prior to seasons end purely because we might need it for next season.

The fact we gave up so many draft picks just goes to show how desperate we were to cut salary. We aren't just going to take on more. And consider that just about any player we take on from here on in we'll pretty much be paying him double his salary (thanks to the tax).

the only way i see the suns using the TPE is if a one year rental player (ie tim thomas jim jackson type deal) becomes available

and even then, i doubt it
