Sorry for another Miller topic but looks like Gasol has been traded to the Lakers so getting Miller would be easier. We could do the TE and ATL pick for him or Diaw, Banks and pick for Miller, Warrick and Andre Brown.

Do you understand how the TE works? It has to be the TE for a player. You can include a pick but you can't include a player along with the TE. And how does that make it easier to get Miller?

If you read carefully you can see i didn't include a player with the TE, as for getting Miller it seems like the Grizzlies are looking to get younger/move salaries and Miller would want to play for a contender if thats the direction they take.

Miller would be great. so would a center. We need some size now. Our rivials have gotton better and bigger.

You're right, sorry I got a little ahead of myself. Sometimes people on this board just throw ideas around that don't even work under the cba. It gets a little old. My apoligies.

I still don't think they will trade Miller. At least not for peanuts. He's a vet on a young team and a valueable shooter. For the record I have been on board for a LB for Miller deal. Maybe Boris but we become even smaller.

we can't get Miller for the TE, check it out on ESPN. unless we can put both our exemptions together? And in no way can we give up Diaw for a SF/SG, especially now. We need a big more than ever now!

I think you can put both TE's together, but I am not for sure. I have not studied the CBA like some do on this board. Fact is, what will this team do to address its needs. You have up to 10 mil in TE, and some decent peices to make some neccesary trades.

After their trades they have a roster like this:
PG: Lowry/Conley/Crittendon
SG: Miller/Navaro
SF: Gay/Cardinal/Jacobsen
PF: Warrick/A. Brown
C: Darko/Kwame/Collins

So, here's my proposal:
Marion/Tucker/Strawberry/Atl Pick
for
Miller/Darko/Warrick/Navaro

This is closer to a deal that Memphis might be interested in because Marion would definitely opt out this summer because they are a rebuilding team. They get 2 good youngs that dont really see time with us, plus they get another 1st round pick.
This would help us by giving us another proven 3pt shooter, 2 more bigs (size is key), and a back-up PG for Nash (Navarro can play either guard spot AND Crittendon can play SG for Memphis)

Here's their roster after this deal:
PG: Conley/Lowry
SG: Strawberry/Crittendon
SF: Gay/Tucker/Jacobsen
PF: Marion/Cardinal/A. Brown
C: Kwame/Collins

That's a very young team with a lot of potential talent. It would also give them 3 first round picks this year. Potential that 2 of those will be in the lottery (Memphis pick and Atlanta pick) to grab some good bigs say Beasley with their pick, Gallinari with the Atlanta pick and a center or someone with the Laker pick. With those two guys they could move Gay to SG with Galinari at SF and Beasley at PF.

It would give us a roster like this:
Nash/Navarro/Banks
Bell/Barbosa/Pike
Miller/Hill
Diaw/Warrick/Marks
Amare/Darko/Skinner

Versatility galore, more size, more defense, more offense.
Navarro plays PG/SG
Miller SG/SF
Warrick SF/PF
Darko PF/C (another plus is that he's a 7 footer that would be able to run with this team.

I'm not sure if you can combine those either. It would make sense, especially in this case since the KT exception is only $300k short. Anybody know for sure?

We do need more size and Miller would give us that. He isn't a big but when you consider that he would be taking minutes from LB and Banks it is a size upgrade. I would be willing to move the Atl pick for him. I can't see what else the Grizzle would be interested in other than that.

I'm pretty sure you can NOT combine exceptions otherwise we could combine the TPE with the MLE and you're not allowed to do that.

You can't use a TPE to sign a player without a contract. We would use out MinVet or part of our MLE. It's definitely possible unless PJ wanted more then the MLE which lets face it he wouldn't.

Realistically, we'd only be willing to give him the MinVet I think.

Perhaps the only redeeming quality about Kwame Brown, the key player being sent to Memphis, is that his $9,075,000 contract is up after this season. If the Grizzlies continue to blow up their team -- and I wouldn't be surprised if Mike Miller is the next to go -- they will have the cap space to pursue a max-contract player this summer.

I'm not sure he technically can be re-signed by Chicago at this point. I think they would have to use their MinVet, MLE to get it done which would defeat the purpose.

I'm pretty sure there is a deadline on when you can re-sign a player otherwise he gets renounced (not sure whether that's the correct terminology).

as you said tho - either way it would only be for the minimum anyways

Hey KJ7, are you sure you can't combine TPE with each other?

It makes sense that you wouldn't be able to combine other exceptions together as they each serve certain purposes... but the TPEs that PHX has would accomplish the same thing ultimately.

The team has the right to choose which of its available exceptions to use to sign a player. However, teams may not combine exceptions, or combine an exception with cap room, in order to sign a player. For example, a team with a $5 million Mid-Level exception and a $2 million in cap room may not combine them to sign a player for $7 million. This is explained more thoroughly in question number

how about Darko instead of Miller. what we need is someone to man up Bynum and Duncan so that Amare can guard Gasol and Oberto. Amare owns Gasol. I only brought it up since Hollinger said he wouldn't be surprise if Miller and Darko were gone as well in his blog.

Or maybe a deal with Marion, Diaw, and the Atlanta pick for Darko, Navarro, Warrick (or Crittendon), Miller and don't kill me Kwame.

Here's my reasoning:
Marion and Diaw work fabulously together and Iavoroni loves both of them. Plus Marion could be an expiring (if he choses to) or a major trade bait guy. Darko hasn't worked well with Memphis since he signed with them. Kwame is just an expiring for them (see Marion).

It get's the Suns two serviceable bigs to throw at Duncan, Bynum and Gasol. They help the rebounding that we lose with Marion gone. As has been stated numerous times, we know what Miller would be to this team. Navarro would be a good back-up for Nash.
