..........make no mistakes about it. The Suns practically fell asleep at the wheel when the Gasol trade went down. It forced Kerr's hand. Not only is the entire Western Conference threatened by the potential of Kobe-Odom-Gasol-Bynum, but our very own Pacific Division - which we've dominated these past few years. We simply couldn't stand pat. There's no way this team could've taken the pounding they would've had to endure in the playoffs from all of the Western Conference's big teams and be able to function at full speed in an NBA Finals. And besides, we see what happens in the playoffs - we get forced into half court sets.

We didn't get our hand forced for ****. I don't get that. We had the best record in the league, we hadn't hit our stride yet, Marion and Bell just started to start kicking ass again, we had a major home stretch, etc.

I don't buy it.

Again, our record is deceiving when considering who we've actually beaten. It's clear we're weak against all the quality big teams in the west, especially on the boards. Faced with the looming force that might unfold in Los Angeles (who threatens to take over the Pacific Division), Steve Kerr had no choice.

I just don't understand why we didn't get involved in the Gasol mix.

I agree with your post on the Lakers board. May be because I am not a believer in run and gun basketball. No offense to you guys, I just don't think Suns have a chance to win championship by playing that style. Adding Shaq would give you versatility to match the other teams. Now I do fear the Suns in the playoff.

This is indeed a high risk high reward trade. Yes you have the best record in the NBA right now, but it could end up all the same as previous years' failures. It's an all in for the suns.

C'mon SS .......we've all seen this team against the league's best so far this year...... let's not pretend we haven't watched the struggles..... Kerr's just got a different mentality than the one being imposed on the rest of the Suns organization and fan base these past few years. He clearly doesn't believe in the run and gun. Can you really blame him?

As for us getting in the Gasol mix, nothing was mentioned. I'm more likely to assume that we were going to wait up until near the end of the deadline to see how things began to shake out. In some ways I can see how the Suns might've tried to work with the core, but that was until someone within our own Pacific Division decided to go out and get better........ LOTS better.

I've personally grown tired of the style. It rejuvenated the franchise and the league for that matter, but it's clearly got it's weaknesses which seem to show up come playoff time when the game changes.

Well I tend to think that the top teams in the west have the ability to beat every other team on any night.

The hornets, mavs, spurs and suns and to a lesser degree the jazz, warriors and rockets could all split series' with each other and I don't think that would be all that shocking.

man i cant wait to see shaq here, the guy is epic, always cracking jokes, everyone in the world knows him, cant wait for the first pass from nash and hearing the rim rattle with his first big dunk.

Tell me one playoff series we lost DIRECTLY AS A RESULT of the run n' gun style we play.

ME ( lakers fan) .. I feel funny about the trade I like watching PHX run the floor ..and thought ya'll would have been in the finals ..if horry wouldn't have changed the game ..so you team was great to me ..and plaus the is just the regular season ...everyone was coasting unitill play-offs..


Now ..I don't know ..your management wasn't willing to pay marion but is willing to take on 80 mill in salary for the next 4 years? I thnk shaq won' help as much as trading marion and banks for VC may have helped..

Personaly I think this trade made the suns worst ..shaq has never been in shape ever ( loosely) he will be tired by the end of the first quarter with the style of ball the suns play..

I don't know ..i just think ya'll have become worse..marion hit 3's and rebounded and ran the floor ect ..shaq has no game outside of the paint and is a liabilty on D when it comes to quicker players and the pick n roll
