I am hard pressed to belive that this is the best deal we could get for Shawn Marion, This is a cap cripelling panic move that makes no sense for Dantoni's coaching style and while it may improve our half court offsense will make us a worse defensive team and limit our fast break opportunities. I am a mod of another board but a scottsdale resident and a big suns fan and I don't want someone who would make a decision like this as the GM.

Combine this deal with the Kurt Thomas Trade, we sent away 2 draft picks to rid ourselves of thomas's contract only to add a much greater financial burdon later in the season. I would have considerd trading Shaq for Diaw and Banks and some smaller contracts to make things work under the cap but Marion had real trade value that we could have gotten something of value from.

Could we not have traded memphis Marion, Strawberry or Tucker and Atlanta's first along with taking a contract back like cardinals for Gaasol instead of this.


If Shaq doesnt work out we are stuck with him and can't make any other major moves the rest of Nash's time with us. Wouldn't Milwalkee traded Charlie V plus filler in a second for marion? This trade shows Kerr has no real vision, we arent trying to save money, so why did we trade KT? I know marion has been a locker room problem and fueding with Amare but we could have at the very least aquired theo ratliff a huge expiring from Minnesota and some of their young talent like Gerald Green and the celtics pick they own that t which would have actually helped our defense and maybe given us some prospects at the wing position for the future. I really dont see this deal working out for teh suns and feel free to bring this thread back up if we win the title but really, this was a panic move that proved steve kerr has no ideal of what a dantoni coached team should look like, if we were going to add 20 million in salary why not AK. better defender, marion like, would fit in the offense better, better shotblocker then Shaq. Hell if we wanted a traditional center there were better options out there, couldnt we ahve gotten Pryzbilla and Frye and some other goodies from portland if we wanted ot go that route.


So Kerr is overall on the record for trading Kurt thomas and 2 picks for nothing and our 2nd best defender for an injured out of shape center who doesn't fit our system and adds salary. Either Kerr Waited too long to trade marion, or he just has plain bad judgment, either way I don't want him as the GM after this.

How will this make you a worse defensive team when your tallest guy was 6'10 and getting dominated by the Nowitskis and Duncans every night?

Seriously, Shaq's injuries are cause for concern and the 2 week wait certainly hurts. But to the Suns, Diaw can play a similar level to Marion and it just means their big man situation is the same for 2 weeks. But other then that, for you to call out Steve Kerr like that is just plain wrong.

He essentially freed up salary to take a player like Shaquille O'Neal. If Shaq pans out and the Suns win the title, you will bless Steve Kerr. That's just not right. This move makes sense even if they don't win. Just like some of Billy King's moves would've made sense if we had a center that could play defense or a legit defensive wing man(Sammy still doesn't qualify as a center that can play defense. But he certainly has improved fundamentally)

D'Antoni was doing similar things as GM. I don't think firing Kerr will make much of a difference as long as we have Sarver around.

Jazz: 14-2 since Kyle Korver suited up for them, do they trade AK for Marion straight up(You know, come to think about it, I think they do, they become better then the Suns in that scenario)

If that's true, then I'm in favor. If Mike thinks he can make things work with Shaq, I feel a lot better. I still think this was a Kerr decision though.

I fully understand not trading Shawn Marion for another wing or backcourt player. The Suns have a great backcourt, and when you think about it what wing player better than Marion could the Suns acquire?

Well I guess they could have possibly gambled on Artest, but I think the Suns realized that what they had wasn't working, or at least the FO felt like what they had wasn't going to work as evidenced by their past playoff failures so to make a long story short, in that sense I fully understand trading Marion for a big man...

Because shaq has lost most of his lateral quickness and cant stay with duncan, and can't stay in the same room with Dirk, Shaq's playing time has been limited this year not only becuase of injury but because he has picked up so many silly fould becuase he doesnt have the quickness anymore to keep on D

I dont think this warrants a firing.

Shaq seems motivated and come playoff time his experience will be valuable.

Marion wanted to go and instead of aquiring yet another wing he got us a 7 footer who can defend the post and rebound, which is what everone on these boards has been crying out for.

I'll be interested to see if there is a noticeable difference in the persona of the team tonight, will there be relief? More smiles? More looseness? Will be very interesting.

wow, just WOW. It looks like Kerr is still stuck in the 90's. Shawn IS the heart of the Phoenix offense. Now he's gone I don't know how it will operate.

The team looked like it was missing something tonight, and more often than not I thought "wow, Shawn would really help here" more than "Shaq will shore this up for us".
