Add Ryan Gomes? MN-PHO

There was some discussion about trading for Ryan Gomes last month, but I think with Marion gone, he's even a better fit because he's:

1. Productive (16 PPG, 7 RPG since becoming a starter)
2. Ultra Cheap ($0.77 mil)
3. Unguaranteed (Bring him back at your leisure or clear salary -- RFA)

He can play outside with his three-point shot and inside with grit and heart. He's young but he's started over 120 games because he makes good decisions. Decent defender, works hard, smart passer. It seems to me he'd give Tucker time to develop while helping PHO win this season. And of course, MIN can trade away production because they aren't going anywhere, and take back non-productive players.

Maybe something like:

PHO GETS: Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green
MIN GETS: Piatkowski, Marks, ATL pick

I'm guessing the ATL pick comes in around 18. There are just too many bad teams in the East for ATL to drop three spots, and I suspect their young team will get better in the second half.

All these players are cheap enough to involve TPE's if it works better. MIN also has Craig Smith and Telfair instead, if you prefer one to Gomes, but to me, Gomes looks like the best fit.

As a Minnesota fan, I can't believe you can possibly be this high.

Can you give us Gomes and Smith instead of Gomes and Green?

MN fans want my head for suggesting Gomes might be a better fit with you guys .. including Craig Smith would get me killed!

Gomes has been MIN's second best player, and most of the fans want him back next season .. including me. But the pragmatist in me realizes that this is not our year.

I think they may go for Gomes + Green, or Smith + Green, but Gomes + Smith would probably cost more than just the ATL pick. Its 25 PPG of our production. We might be able to wiggle a little more out of trade exceptions, maybe enough to get you under the lux.
