Stockton and Malone had long careers. Plus, the basketball was in their hands the majority of the time.

That explains their high turnover numbers.

Like Nash doesn't have the ball in his hands a lot?

Hey brainiac - did you ever consider just how many more offensive posessions Nash and the Suns have had than practically all the other NBA teams? Focus on the Assist/Turnover ratio.

Below is a list of players available that would be good on the Suns and are free agents, NBDL players that are not assigned to an NBA team, or available in trade. We have to pick up a plyer now that we are under the minimum roster.

Rumor has it we are going to sign Richie Frahm. In my opinion he does nothing for us.

Free Agents --
Otis George SF/PF/C 6'9" (240) PPG 10.4 RPG 9.4 APG 1.6 in Suns Summer League - he was with the Suns during Summer league and preseason before being cut since we only had one roster spot available and that went to DJ Strawberry. However Kerr and D'Antoni both said they would keep an eye out for him to eventually sign with the Suns

NBDL --
Carlos Powell 6'7" (220) PPG 22.3 RPG 6.3 APG 4.2 SPG 1.2 BPG 0.3
Kaniel Dickens 6'8" (235) PPG 21.8 RPG 5.2 APG 1.2 SPG 0.8 BPG 0.8
Elton Brown 6'9" (250) PPG 20.1 RPG 10.9 APG 2.1 SPG 0.5 BPG 1.0
Rod Benson 6'10" (225) PPG 12.7 RPG 12.1 APG 1.1 SPG 1.3 BPG 1.3
Darvin Ham 6'7" (230) PPG 9.5 RPG 5.6 APG 1.4 SPG 0.8 BPG 0.7
DerMarr Johnson 6'9" (210) PPG 16.0 RPG 5.3 APG 1.3 SPG 1.4 BPG 0.4 --Previous Suns experience

Tradeable --
Mickael Pietrus for T.E. and 2008 Cleveland (via Suns) 2nd round pick
Charlie Villanueva & Charlie Bell for Raja Bell and Atl Pick
Sebastian Telfair/Gerald Green/Ryan Gomes for T.E. and Atl Pick
David Lee & Fred Jones for Raja Bell and Atl Pick
Andre Iguodala & Kevin Ollie for Raja Bell & Atl Pick (Best trade since 76ers like Bell)
Ron Artest & Quincy Douby for T.E. & Atl Pick (2nd best trade)

I like the Pietrus deal.

The David Lee deal is not realistic, nor is the Iggy deal.

I don't like the Villanueva deal.

I like the Minny deal, though I think we would have to add more.

Pietrus isn't worth taking Strawberry's minutes, since that would be all he would get.

I love the Villanueva deal, but hate Charlie Bell's contract for what he brings in the 14 minutes he'd play.

Minny won't trade Gomes. He's their best compliment to Jefferson.

Other deals wouldn't happen.

I would like to keep the ATL pick if possible. I think we need a 3, one who can shoot the 3.

I would like to see for cheap is DerMarr Johnson. He can shoot, and can play the 3.

For a trade with the TE, I would like to see Green or Peitris. I think some of the ideas are unrealistic. I think we need some kind of guy that can help us on D, and has younger legs than Hill.

Most likely, we will have to look to the east to get that SF shooter.

As a MIN fan, I thought I'd respond to all three posts at once.

Togo's right, MIN wouldn't take that deal as is. I think you could look at getting Gerald Green plus one of Gomes, Telfair, or Craig Smith. I think they'd like to bring back all three RFA's, but it will be tight to stay under the lux, and I suspect owner Glen Taylor won't exceed it.

Magee is right about Gomes being very effective for us -- probably our second best player, averaging about 16 PPG and 7 RPG since he became a starter. However, as with any of these three, they may receive offers that are too expensive for MIN to match, so I think the door is cracked a bit. Telfair's been playing great lately -- 12 assists, 0 turnovers in his last game. Probably the easiest to move is Craig Smith (averaging about 10 PPG, 5 RPG and FG 55%), not because he lacks talent, but because he's hard to play alongside Al Jefferson. Gerald Green probably wouldn't be a lot of help in PHO, but he'd be fun to watch in your up-tempo game. Perhaps with Nash simplifying the game for him, getting him the ball in good situations, he could give you something besides a few amazing dunks.

I think a PHO-MIN deal would include a non-productive expiring coming back to the wolves. They don't care about production this season, and with the Suns lux problems, it'd save Sarver double. The salary-matching isn't an issue, since both teams carry a few TPE's. I suspect its highly unlikely two teams move in front of ATL in the weak east and kick them out of the play-offs .. and more likely their young team improves in the second half. I'd value the ATL pick like #18.

I guess I'd suggest something like:

Gerald Green + Gomes/Smith/or Telfair for Piatkowski + ATL pick.

If you wanted two of those guys, you'd probably need to include one of your young prospects.

It would most likely be Gomes and either Green or Telfair (preferably Telfair). The Suns don't have a need for Smith now that we have Shaq. If it was up to me, Minny would be the team I'd go to first in finding a 13th player. When Shaq is taking a breather or is in foul trouble or hurt, then Amare moves back to the 5 and Gomes goes to PF (same situation that he's in with Jefferson now). Telfair would be great backing up Nash. I'd do Pike and the Atlanta pick for those 2 in a heartbeat. Green would be an afterthought for me. If it was between him and grabbing a guy from the D-League, I'd take a D-Leaguer right now.

Well, most MIN fans wouldn't give you Gomes for the ATL pick, so I don't think there's much chance of getting both Gomes and Telfair for it.

Artest deal ::nod::

Nash/Barbosa
Hill/Bell
Artest/Charles Barkely
Stoudemire/Diaw
Shaq/Skinner

Artest is a low risk, high reward type of situation. Chances are, whoever you guys draft with the pick, that player will have little impact, and will be sitting behind a lot of current vet/stars. Or, it is also very likely mangement may sell the pick, again.

With Artest, you guys now have an amazing defensive lineup in Bell/Artest/Amare/Shaq. You guys get half a year with Artest to see if he works or not. If you guys are winning, and everyone is happy, Artest will resign with you guys, he has said he wants to win more than anything now. However, if he doesn't work out at all, then it was a half year problem at the cost of a pick.

I've never heard Ron Artest described as "low risk" before.

Low risk

I like his game, but that is in no way a low risk unless Shaq can keep him somewhat normal.

If you want Artest, why not go for Miller? think of him as our SF sharp shooter? that would make us so difficult, and scary that people would be crapping their pants seeing our team.

About Johnson, we can't get him, he is apart of the spurs now I guess.

I heard they waived Marcus Williams if that interest any UofA fans.

I think all we need to do is bring in Green and no one else from the wolves. He is a slasher, and shoots around the same % as Marion did from the 3 I think. I could be that athletic quick forward that slashes like marion did.

but I want Miller here.
