Official 13th roster spot thread

I just felt that we should have one of these so we didn't end up having about 20. Mods, do whatever you want with this thread before or after we sign somebody.
Victor Khryapa just got released by Chicago. I have always thought he would be a good fit here. He reminds me a little bit of Travis Outlaw. I have heard he may be going back to Russia but I'm sure Kerr will be giving his agent a call anyway.
People have mentioned Frahm and he would be ok. Of course we will all want the org to do something more substantial.

i also thought about kryhapa, or however you spell him...
would be a nice fit in here, but, we should look at someone on the pg spot.
maybe someone who can give us bout 5-10 minutes, a veteran - hard to find i know.
on the other hand, we can sign everybody, cause our lineup is pretty set with diaw, lb and skinner coming of the bench...
or could we now have a chance of landing pj brown??

Yeah gettin Khryapa wud be useless right now since we got Shaq on the team, it's a backup PG we need.
There aren't any usefull free PGs out there anymore tho
Bibby's bein shopped, he'd be a nice fit with us. We shud try workin out a trade 2 get him, then after that add on a guy 2 fill in spot of whoever left

Actually we already have a thread over this subject.

What does having a C have to do with filling the backup sf spot? Khryapa is a sf in the Matrix mold that he could play some 4 if needed. I don't think Shaq effects that at all.
A backup pg wouldn't be horrible, although I think DJ can fill the 3rd pg spot fine. LB is obviously our backup pg. He isn't a true pg but we have to get him time somewhere.
Kerr came out today and said he is looking for a wing defender/shooter. Here's to hoping that Sarver goes all in and lets Kerr deal the Atl pick to Memphis for Mike Miller. Our roster would be rediculous. Miller is in the prime of his career and could be our future starting sf after GH leaves. We won't get anybody with the Atl pick that could have that type of impact right away.
Shaq 30min
Amare 30min
Hill 30min
Bell 30min
Nash 30min
LB 30min
Boris 30min
Miller 30min
DJ (play in blowouts/foul trouble)
Skinner (play in blowouts/foul trouble)
Pike
Marks
Alando

It has to do with that before our biggest weakness was our inside game, but now that we got Shaq it won't the case anymore, so the best upgrade possible isn't a guy who can play in the post player anymore.
Right now our biggest weakness is easily not havin a real backup point, our bench chemistry looks like total shiyt with Barbs runnin the show.
LB's a true SG, doesn't play like a PG AT ALL.
If we get a pass first PG off the bench that lets Barbs play his natural spot at SG where he's a zillion times more effective and it totally upgrades our 2nd unit.
DJ has nice potential but I don't see him capable of runnin the show off the bench just yet

That said if we trade away 1 of our swingmen for a PG then Khryapa becomes interesting

Bibby and Mike Miller make way too much money. What are you guys smoking?

LB plays the pg every night. He isn't great at it but if we go out and sign another pg who is going to sit? We are already going to have a hard time finding time for Skinner. We are only talking about 12-14min/game. I think DJ would do fine in that role.
I'll bet that when Steve is on the bench MD will make sure Shaq is out there with Boris. That makes a low post passer and a high post passer. Combine those guys with LB and a couple of shooters and you could have a good thing going.
My point about the sf is that if GH went down, who do we have? Boris? Raja? Alando? Fact is, we are thin at that position.

Looks like Kerr shares my opinion.

Why aren't we okay with giving Strawberry some more minutes before the playoffs and giving him spot minutes during the post-season? We have him, he plays great defense and I haven't seen him make an incredibly stupid play yet! Plus he stroked a trey the other night so we know he has the confidence to take the shots he is given... unlike Diaw.

What do you guys think of maybe trying to acquire Gerald Green from Minnesota? He is young, an athletic freak, can play decent defense and as far as i have heard he wants out of Minnesota, also think he would do well in an offense like the suns. Just a thought. Any opinions?

We didn't think they would ever want Shaq either did we. I don't want Bibby. With Miller we would be the clear favorites in the league to win the title.

Shaq 30min
Amare 34min
Hill 30min
Bell 34min
Nash 34min
LB 30min
Boris 30min
Skinner ?
Well IF we get a true backup PG AND we manage 2 hold onto our our top 8 playas that backup PG will only play when Nash sits so we'd do sth like
Shaq : 27
Amare : 33
Hill : 32
Raja : 33
Nash : 33
LB : 30
Diaw : 27
Backup PG : 15
Skin : 10
And when Shaq is injured Amare plays 35, Diaw 37, Skin 25...

And we still don't have a backup option at sf. I would rather have the big wing. So would mgt.

Of course we'd have backups at SF
Diaw is a gonna be playin at SF and when Barbs n Bell are on the court at the same time with Hill off the court Raja slides in at SF (since we're supposed 2 have gotten a true backup point guard LB's a full time swingman now).
We can also play Tuck 7ish MPG when Shaq's hurt

Sure Boris is going to play a little at 3 but his primary role is as a backup big man.
I see your sarcasm regarding "when Shaq gets hurt" so I will ask the obvious question of who is going to play the 3 when "GH gets hurt"? Raja can't start at 2 spots. Do we really want to rely on Alando that much?
I understand that we havn't looked great without Nash on the court but with Shaq out there we are better equipped to score in the 1/2 court.
Maybe you didn't see this on the last page but it looks like mgt agrees with me.
"We are already looking at guys, contacting agents," Suns General Manager Steve Kerr said. "I think it's safe to say we're looking for a wing defender/shooter. Obviously, losing Shawn, Grant (Hill) moves into that role considerably in terms of the versatile defender. You saw (Wednesday vs. New Orleans), he slides over and guards Chris Paul in crunch time and does a great job, but we don't want to run Grant out there for 38 minutes, either.
"D.J. (Strawberry) can also fill that role. Excellent defender. I would think we will add somebody like that. Preferably a guy who's played a bit."

Mickael Pietrus. He'd be perfect for the Suns as their backup SG/SF

Well the great Steve Kerr hasn't exactly been makin awesome moves lately IMO.
Like I said, Barbs needs to play at SG, n I don't see DJ as a reliable playmaker just yet, which is why I much rather us get a pass-first PG then a swingman.
What do we do when Hill goes down? (assuming we get that backup PG) :
We do this
Shaq/Skinner
Amare/Diaw
Bell/Diaw/Tucker
LB/DJ/Tucker
Nash/Backup PG
I'm lots more comfortable with our rooks not havin to run the team
What do we do when Hill AND Shaq hit on the nurses at the same time? :
When/If that happens we're gonna be swrewed anyways no matter what, so who cares...
