On annual trade talk involving him: "That's one thing I was kind of fed up. Everybody was trying to take shots at me. I just felt like I had to come out and protect myself. I was just tired of it. If somebody keeps saying they're going to do something, eventually if you don't do something yourself, you're just going to sit back and be the guinea pig."
On being disrespected: "To a certain degree. If you say you're going to do something and then turn around and do another thing, that's basically like you're lying to me. Your word is nothing to me."
On the trade: "I was supposed to be informed of anything going on. For the media and everybody else to hear it before me is another slap in the face. When you come out and make a statement that nobody's being traded, it's kind of hard."

You can't blame him for being pissed that he heard they won't trade any of the core yet they go around two weeks later and trade him.
You can't blame him for being pissed about being involved in trade rumors each and every summer, each and every trade deadline, despite being such an integral part of the team's success for years. I would have long been sick and tired of it .

i guess it goes both ways. you hear stuff about you all the time, you get sick of it, but you also open your mouth and say you want out - not necessarily because you could do better, but because you are always talked about.
like which came first? who knows. must be weird to be part of a winning team, yet at the same time be part of an unhappy team.

I am really happy to see Marion leave.
Both sides wanted it to happen..so the fans should be happy, too.
Today he was a distraction to our beloved Suns.
He always disappeared in the big games in the PO (except Game 6 of the 2nd round in 2005 and Game 5 (1sthalf) of the 2nd round last year).
We also dumped the contract of Banks. His sold contract (17mil) alone is worth 1 seaon of Shaq (20 mil) so not that bad at all.
And Marion makes almost the same money as Shaq this year and next year.
And with SHAQ on the board everybody is enthused and more motivated than with a whining Marion.
Marion is crying baby who was the best paid player on a team and now he has a chance to prove the criticers (like me) wrong. I don't think he will be as valuable in Miami than he was here in PHX. But let's wait and see.
I already said before the season without Marion we would do better because of the bad chemistry we had in the locker room.
Marion is maybe the best all around player in the league but he always wants more recognition than he gets, but he isn't worth the recognition for a reason!
With SHAQ we have a better shot this year.
GO SUNS!!!

Like I said in the other forums about Marion, I'm a huge fan of Marion but lets be honest about one think. Sarver said that he was not going to trade any of the core players. We alway thought that Marion was part of the core players, but did the Suns FO ever said who was the core player???
Maybe Marion was a part of that so called "core player" but this season it might of change. Also Marion always needed to be told that he was a great piece of this team or else he would be in the corner crying about him not getting any respect. Please Marion, go out with class and thank the Suns orginazation for drafting you and spending all those yrs with the Suns and for giving you the rediculous max contracr when we all knew that you were not a max type of player.
Like I said in the begining of this blog, I'm a Marion fan but I got tired of his whinning and always asking for attention.

I'm going to take what Sarver/Suns said at face value - they had no plans to shake up the team, then Miami called them. I really doubt they had any thoughts of trading for Shaq until that happened.
The important thing now is who can we pick up as 13th, not that he'd have to be the guy at the far end of the bench.
I know Cassell wants to go to Boston but ....Sam would be scary with us

This is a good example of selective journalism, folks.
I listened to the entire interview and Shawn said that he loved Phoenix, loved his teammates and said that the tension issues were way overblown. He said he is still in a state of shock and was very sad that he had to leave the Suns. Gambo brought out that Shawn never turned down an interview request in 8 years and always had time for the media. Basically, Shawn sounded sad and called Phoenix his "home", but things happen so he was looking forward to a new start. I thought he said all the right/good things.
Those comments were about 5% of what he actually said and yet they title the article "Marion Critical of Suns" which is misleading to say the least. And what he said is right. Although they never define the word 'core' but Sarver did come out and say 'Amare and Marion flat out not going to get traded' and two weeks later he's gone. Shawn has the right to feel being betrayed. I can see why he'd be disappointed in the front office that they didn't even inform him there's trade talk involving him until the Miami Herald broke the news. He, along with LB, just not very mature enough in dealing with the word 'trade'.

Agreed... http://ktar.net/blogs/gash/wp-content/u ... marion.mp3 ... how anyone can listen to that and think badly of him is ridiculous, IMO.

He gets paid big money doesn't mean he has no right to say what he really feels inside his heart. For the record, I don't like it when he b*tches, but it's not like he doesn't play hard on the court and backup his talk. Again, if that's how he likes to motivate himself, so be it. He gives good effort and contributes, that's all I care.
I'm disappointed in him coming out asking for a trade too, I think that's stupid for him to do that. But you'd think his agent is 100% behind it. Otherwise he wouldn't be this sad to leave Phoenix now that he finally got traded to a team that might be willing to give him an extension.
Again, you have to listen to the whole interview and you will realize that Shawn was very gracious, thanking the fan, the team, his teammates, and only making a fleeting statement about the management.
