"I felt a little bit. We're going to go in there and do some treatment. It's feeling better than it did before. I'm really comfortable with alternative-style treatments that we're doing."
I was reading through the Shaq quotes, and also from listening to Steve Kerr about the alternative style of treatment in Phoenix, and Kerr made a reference of them working on Grant Hill.
Am not much of a Shaq fan coming from Miami, the guy always was hurt, and pretty inconsistent with his effort, but I wanna find out more about this alternative style treatments I keep hearing Shaq and Kerr talk about. If this treatments work on Shaq, they might be your only chance at a title.
Could anyone talk about this alternative treatments?

Basically Nelson is in to all of the new treatment therapy techniques that have been used of late. A lot of the trainers around the league are old school and they stick with the tried and true. How many teams have a rehab pool in their arena? Not many...in fact, I believe the Suns were the first. He is proud of the fact that over the last 5 years or so the Suns have missed BY FAR the least amount of games to injury.

The alternative treatments are a trade secret of Nelson's. No-one outside the organization, other than players that are no longer there, know or discuss the treatments that Nelson uses. I don't care what he does. All I know is whatever he does works, and a lot of players can attribute better health and longer playing days due to him and his staff.

Here's an article from the EVT that sheds some light on what they do. The concepts aren't exactly new. They have been doing this for the better part of 10 years. It's just slow to catch on for some reason. I'm sure there will be some copycatting going on if they can claim Shaq as another success story. Here's the link:

I remember reading articles about the players getting deep tissue massages and how they would grimace throughout it but afterwards they felt fantastic.
I've heard Shaq say that they have a daily routine for him to do RE: his hip and that they think he'll be fine if he commits to it.
Whatever he is doing, the way Hill has bounced back and the amount of games Nash has played (after being told countlessly by Mavs fans that he will break down soon) he is doing a stellar job and must know what he's doing.

As a Laker Fan, I'd say it's time to fire Gary Vitti and make a hard pitch for this guy. We'll pay him triple. Seriously, that's your MVP right there. I mean look at the Lakers
Mihm (working on his 3rd year with a bad ankle)
Bynum (hyper extended knee)
Turiaf (light ankle sprian, inflammed shoulder)
Ariza (broken foot)
Kobe (torn ligaments in his finger)
Walton (bad back)
Gasol (bad back)
Other than that one year that Amare missed the whole year, I don't think you guys have had one big injury.
Contrast that with the Lakers....it seems every year since 2002 they are destroyed by injuries. I'm jealous... Seems like Vitti needs to work on his preventative therapy just a little bit, don't you think?

The AZ Republic did a pretty good article on it back in September.

The Phoenix staff works to avoid player injuries by correcting body imbalances with flexibility exercises and corrective therapy.
The Suns invest in their players' health, too, having bought a Colorado Athletic Training chamber and an anti-gravity machine this summer. The CAT pulls out air to simulate a workout on a treadmill or exercise bike at 9,000 feet. The gravity machine puts a player in a compression suit and can pull 80 percent of his body weight off the treadmill to reduce the pounding, especially toward the end of the season when Nash runs sprints for a workout after the Suns' scaled-back practices.
