IT'S NOT THAT MARION IS A BAD GUY, JUST A LITTLE DELUSIONAL.

I thought this was an excellent read, and something different from all the other articles, blogs, etc. Simmons sometimes talks about random nonsense, but this article made me laugh quite a bit.

I thought it was funny that he used the coin flip analogy with the suns history of coin flips.

"And yeah, I know he's talented, and the stat geeks love him, even though he peaked as an impact player two seasons ago and has a nasty habit of disappearing in big games."

It's been cited again and again that he's come up big for us in playoff games too, and the only team he struggles against is San Antonio(which, sadly, is the team that we have to go through).

"It's not that he's a bad guy, just a little delusional"

Delusional? No. Insecure? Absolutely.

"The Suns didn't have a chance of winning a title two weeks ago."

For some reason, I feel like I'm definitely in the minority(even amongst this board) when I say that I fully believe that we were title contenders with Marion.

Great read. Even iwhen you don't agree with Simmons, he is always a good read. It's not surprising to have him in the minority here.

You probably have been waiting to read one writer dumb enough to defend the Shaq trade. Well, look no further. Here I am

The Marion trashin is stupid, but that's just Bill Simmons.
Marion's supposed to go cry in his pillow over the trade?
He always wanted an increased role so now that he got it of course he gonna go all depressive over it.

What was so indespensible bout Marion?
Maybe the fact that he was the only top notch defender on the team, the guy who moves without the ball best, and 1 of the olny guys on the team who can be effective without the ball in his hands?

Suns weren't a championship team?
When u have the best record in the western conf ur a chamionship contender fo sure no matter what.

It's not his fault that we gave him a max contract. It's also not his fault that Steve Kerr can't get at last a 2nd round draft pick from the Heat in the deal.

Stop the trashing, it's getting stupid.

Agreed, I can't believe we didn't get a single pick from them...their 2nd would be like a late late 1st....

Have you read 7 seconds or less? Apparently in the series against Dallas, D'antoni was so disappointed in Marion's lack of effort that he had to have a closed door meeting with him.

I have read 7 Seconds or Less many times, and actually purchased several copies of the book to give to friends as a Christmas present, and I know that sometimes his effort was questioned, but then again, D'Antoni also admitted that he was much harsher on Marion than he was on Steve. Check out Shawn's numbers from the 05-06 playoffs....absolutely ridiculous.

There we go again with the "best record" jive......... Talk about misleading #'s ........we've fluffed our "best record" with our dominance of crappy teams in the East and beating teams we should beat in the West. How we faired against the league's upper-echelon is the true indicator, the whole reason we made the trade in the first place.

Who made this guy a movie critic? I thought Nicholson was great in The Departed! I can only hope Shaq puts that kind of performance up.

None the less, entertaining read.

I will give Kerr credit for the cojones line in the article - it did take a lot of that to pull the trigger.

I love that line

"Regardless, it's probably a good idea for Kerr to switch from briefs to boxers. Those giant cojones could use the extra room."

Simmons is a funny writter tho. Good read.

I agree with you enigmatics. The thing with shawn is he went from a title contender IN THE WEST!!!! into a BOTTOMFEEDER in the east and he still complaining. what more does he want because I dont think anyone is going to pay him his 20 million dollar a year asking price. He has his time in the sun at miami and how has he done thus far? lots of rebounds, yes lots of points?, nope, winning? nope. making a difference? nope. YOu guys can complain about shawn getting traded but seeing lamar odom outplaying him even with a torn rotator cuff was pathetic. Im glad the trade happened because the suns needed it and shawn was going to leave anyway.

Let him pad his stats elsewhere.
