According to Marc Stein from ESPN, Jason Kidd may be back on his way to Dallas after all.

Stein was the guy who has repeatedly broken stories before most others, and he is reporting that the Nets and Mavericks have reached a tentative agreement featuring two major changes to keep the deal alive. The scenario will be submitted to the league on Monday.

According to Stein, Trenton Hassell and a SAT Keith Van Horn will leave Dallas for New Jersey, replacing Devean George, who vetoed the first proposal, and Jerry Stackhouse, whose mouth also put the first deal in jeopardy.

The complete trade, if approved by the league, would see New Jersey receiving Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Maurice Ager, Hassell, Van Horn, two first-round draft picks, and $3 million in cash for Kidd and Malik Allen. [READ]

I think the new trade makes Dallas very good it was very important to keep Stackhouse a very good scorer.

With Dirk, Kidd, Jason Terry, Stack & Josh Howard you have 5 very good scorers which make it hard for alot of teams to compete.

I really wish Dallas was giving up both George and Stack. Dallas would have lost so much depth. Now the lose KVH. LOL I forgot he was still on the Mavs.....

Ugh. Although they still lose a Big Guy in Diop, that's still good. But still.

I am not worried about this Dallas team. Not worried about the Lakers. We've beat them in the playoffs even when it was close. I just hope Shaq qill get us over the hump that is the Spurs. After that, even if Shaq sat out in the Finals, we would still be pretty good against any team in the East.

The league can't kill the deal over Van Horn. They already let McKie go to the Grizz in the Gasol deal. If they turned around and pulled that ****, Cuban would flip out.

Like I said, I think this deal will be killed by the league.

I still think Dallas will regret this trade. Harris is a good point guard and really gives us fits. Kidd is slower, can't shoot, and is not a big offensive threat. Losing Diop also hurts.

My only concern when playing Dallas is now Dirk. Who will guard Dirk now that Marion is gone? Marion always did a great job with Dirk. Amare and Shaq can't do it. Hill may be to small. Diaw?

Terry is always a problem for us.

Diaw or Hill could guard him. You just have to be a nuisance to him the entire game, because when he's hitting those fade away jumpers there's nothing you can do.

With Kidd to Dallas and Dallas giving up very little it makes Dallas very dangerous imo.

Dallas now has a lot of scorers, remember Phx has little answer for Josh Howard, Jason Terry or Dirk Nowitski and Jerry Stackhouse kills the Suns throw in Kidd and I just hate to face them if they get it going in the playoffs not that any other team will be easy this year either thou.

Dallas main weakness now is if Dampier gets in foul trouble they have no back up and Shaq and Amare would kill Dallas down low.

Strategies when facing Western Conference teams in the playoffs.

Dallas
Pound it down low. Plain and simple. They can match our perimter shooting, but they are also going to feel a whole lot slower without Harris. This is where we would need Diaw to step it up. Dallas would have to collapse on Shaq and Amare leaving us open perimeter shooters.

Los Angeles
Amare can own Pau. Hopefully Shaq can negate Bynum. They don't have great perimeter shooting. The key to this game is rebounding. Hill, Stoudemire and O'Neal need to be greater then Odom, Gasol and Bynum. Simple as that. If that occurs Kobe won't be a factor.

San Antonio
Run them into the ground and, when they slow us down, pound it down low with Amare and Shaq. They are relatively deep down-low with Duncan, Oberto, Elson and Bonner. Still, even when we are slowed down because of their defense, a quick outlet pass off of a rebound from Shaq will ignite the fastbreak and I don't think that the Spurs can run with us anymore. Parker is a shadow, even before the injury. I hate Manu. Damon won't do anything for them.

New Orleans
They don't have the depth for a best of 7 series. Plus, we wouldn't see them until at least the second round. They'll be tired. It's more a matter of us not screwing around when we play them... a la heaps of turnovers at crucial junctures in overtime.

In addition, and with specific regard given to Dallas.

If we roll out with:
PG - Nash
SG - Bell
SF - Hill
PF - Stoudemire
C - O'Neal

They will have to roll out with:
PG - Kidd
SG - Howard
SF - Nowitzki
PF - Bass
C - Dampier

Dirk can't gaurd Amare the whole game. Bass is their best option. Dampier would have to be on Shaq... and that's without the double-team to take into consideration. That leaves them with only Josh and Dirk as primary scorers. Kidd can hit a jumper and make a lay-up every once and again. Bass can hit the baseline jumper and dunk. Dampier gets them garbage points. They can't afford to have their shooters on the floor at the same time.

Terry and Stack would be terrible for us off the bench though.

Dallas is better with Kidd. He is the triple double machine

When I watched Dallas live last week there offense is the same everytime down nearly post up Dirk throw it to him he did have 31 shots last game.

With Kidd, Howard & Stackhouse they have more shooters and slashers livens up the team and gives them more options.

The theory that Kidd can't shoot jumpers or 3 pointers is false he can shoot he makes about 100 3's a year, how many points did he have when the Suns played NJ in the double overtime thriller 40+.

Apparently Cuban hasn't bothered to consult with Van Horn on this latest deal

"I really can't say," the agent said. "He wants some quiet time to reflect on it. And that's what he should be doing. "He'll make a decision, but it's not going to be 'maybe,' or 70-30. Either he'll do it or he won't do it. And we'll all know in the next 48 to 72 hours."

The league wants Van Horn to play for the rest of the season with the Nets.

If Keith has to think about this deal for the next 72 hours I'd say Cuban has a major problem on his hands.

They are reporting that Van Horn at 9PM accepted to report for "30 days." The larger issue is not yet resolved whether the league will consider whether or not the trade is a circumvention of the CBA.

If Van Horn had played last year it would seem the trade would pass muster. But he didn't, and hasn't in several years. This makes his involvement simply for financial reward, not an attempt to resume his career. Will be interesting to see how the league rules on this!

I would not be too afraid of Kidd, when the Lakers player them on Feb 4th (in NJ), here was the stats line:

Kidd: 11 points / 10 assists / 5 rebounds / 4 fouls / 38 minutes

Fisher: 28 points / 2 assists / 4 rebounds / 2 fouls / 33 minutes

he may not be as done as Shaq is, but at his age and making $21mil next year, wanting a big/long extension, his salary will drag the Mavs down...

Anyone catch the VP of Basketball Operations for the league stating that an un-retired-but-not-playing player being signed and traded in a deal (referring to McKie and KVH) will be dealt on a "case-by-case" basis? What? Aren't there actual rules to what can and can't be done? Or is the league just doing this to allow a blockbuster deal to go down and help both teams move past an ugly situation? Is Stern really is above the law? Geez.

How can Stern and his crew now say a rule can be reviewed on a case by case basis, and yet when Amare and Boris came off the bench against the Spurs they were suspended for the next pivotal game 5 because the rule was the rule, not up for interpretation, whatever.

Dont sleep on the MAVS. They are pissed and once they get JOSH Howard back they got alot of weapons the Suns have not been able to stop in the past.
