A Mavs fan's view.

I've noticed that many people have started writing PHX off for some reason. Now, I admit that I don't think that Shaq is the greatest fit in PHX. But I still think that you guys will improve trading for a HOF center who SHOWS UP in the playoffs and giving up a guy who routinely disappears in the post season.
I really think that this season could be PHX's year. I really do, and the feeling sucks as a Mavs fan. But thinking things over, I really think that you will finally get over the SA hump after this trade. Mostly I am annoyed by the way that people are writing you off as contenders after this trade. Even is Shaq is not very effective I think you guys are contenders and just wanted to let you guys know that as a Mavs fan I feel your pain because these days trading for a good player for a HOFer removes your contender status.

Good post. I think it's pretty clear that both the Suns and Mavs have decided to go all out and put their eggs in the short term for winning a championship(s)?
One thing is for certain, I believe this years NBA playoffs will be unbelievable and every series in the West esp. will be worth watching. I for one think the outside criticism is great. Playing the underdog role with everybody writing you off for various reasons takes alot of pressure off the players and serves for extra motivation for the players being written off (ie: Shaq's decline and the Mavs giving up too much for Kidd for example.) As a Mavs fan you know this all too well having faced the Warriors in last years playoffs. I'd much rather have a team entering the playoffs on the downlow and reeking havoc once the playoffs start.
As a fan I like the trades and moves being made, it's brought a ton of interest to the NBA and it's only late February.
Best of luck, just not against the Suns. LOL

Not really.
We've still got sum interesting assets for the future in Amare/Barbs/Diaw/ATL pick/DJ, whereas the Mavs basically gave up their entire youth and upcoming revelancy in exchange for a last ditch run at the c-ship

bball I agree, totally. I like our youth core in Amare/Diaw/Barbs plus DJ and Atl pick. I should've clarified and said going all out in the short term during the Nash/Hill/and now Shaq era.
The more I think about our situation both immediately and in the future I like it becuause if Shaq can stay healthy I believe we've given ourselves the best chance to win in this Nash era. Additionally, after the 2009/10 season we'll have so much cap space (30+ mill?) that we can completely retool, sign 1 or 2 big free agents and start all over.
Phoenix will always be an attractive location for free agents due to our great weather, being in the West, having a winning organization, a growing city with a solid business economy, and last but not least - extremely attractive women. Tell me this doesn't play a bit of a role in young single athletes!!
So far I'm liking Steve Kerr and his decision making. Not every GM out there would have the balls to do the trade for Shaq. I hated the Kurt Thomas deal but as we all know that was made to save Sarver 16 million smackers after the LT.

The Mavs now need to out score you like old times they have fantastic weapons in KIDD, Terry, Dirk, Stackhouse & Howard, If they can they will win.
KIDD brings offensive organization and hopefully a little mixing it up a bit, making better decision then just dumping it down low to Dirk everytime.
The Mavs weakness is Dampier, not that he is that good but once he gets in foul trouble, If they play a down low they maybe in trouble.
The Mavs key is Josh Howard if he goes off no one can stop him, but if does not the Mavs will be out.

As I already said, I have my doubts about Shaq's fit. And of course as a Dallas fan I will choose Dallas to win lol

So we'll get over the SA hump but won't beat Dallas?

I'd LOVE to play Dallas.

If Dallas runs into us or the Lakers at full strength in the playoffs they're dead meat now.
I mean Shaq/Amare or Pau/Bynum vs Erika/Dirka
That'd be sum major inside pwnage, n they aren't able 2 bring in Diop (who was able 2 do a decent job on Amare) for post defensive help anymore.
Harris was more of a threat for us then Kidd with his quickness/slashing/tuff defense on Nash (Kidd is also a good defender, but he can't stop Nashty, while Harris' quickness gave Nash fits).
Now the Mavs are gonna be runnin a totally one-dimensionnal show on the offensive end, all they can do is shoot jumpers all night.
They still don't have any post-scoring, and now their slashing is gonna suck as well.
Yeah, I'd really want us 2 meet up with these guys in the playoffs.
They'd have 2 get past the first round this time for it to happen tho, Imma keep my fingers crossed for em to do it
