The Sonics waived Brent Barry to clear roster space for their part in Thursday's 11-player trade. Barry is officially a free agent and could sign with any team.

I have a bad feeling that he'll go back to the Spurs. But I really hope we can sign him first.

Actually I don't think he can sign with the Spurs unless they buyout someone themselves?

Won't Barry have to wait 30 days before he signs with the Sterns?

seems way too quick to be unplanned
i genuinely believe this was planned between sam presti (former spur employee) to get the spurs kurt and get them barry back at the minimum after cutting him
i fully expect barry to be a spur in 30 days
but i would LOVE to get him here

I find this way to convenient for the Spurs.

Yep! But any other team can sign him NOW. I'd like rule changed to 1 year before a player can resign with the team that dealt them. Rockets are very interested in him.

I'm 90% sure he's just waiting to rejoin SA....that irks me.

I thought you had to be on a roster before March 1st to be eligible for the post-season.
This rule is lame and allows circumventing of the system.
Of course if it were us doing it and resigning a solid player, I'd love it.
Not a fan when it's the SA Sterns.

He'll be going to the Spurs...KT was cheap, and Barry going back there makes it ridiculously convenient

Well if there was going to be an inquiry into Stackhouse's return, surely there should be one in Barry's case?

If he does, he won't be of any use for them in the playoffs.

So it's 30 days and he can't play for them?
I see...
Maybe not so clearcut them. The more I think of it, the more I think he's perfect for a combo of Mike Miller+Sam Cassell - decent enough handles to play the controlled other half of the Barbosa-led second unit, but with the shot that means you can stick him in the corner in crunch time and KNOW that if a defender doubles down the post, they'll regret it

He will be ineligible to play in post season play because he is forced to sign after march 1.

Incidently, Pike is shooting 100% from the 3 point line in his last 3 games

nope, he just has to be waived before March 1st. He can still be signed by the Spurs and make the playoffs, the question is, will Barry go back to SA or choose to go elsewhere.

Hmmm... I still haven't seen a link on this. Is it confirmed? Source?
And I don't know about the March 1st thing. That's just what ESPN reported last night... talking about signing players...
I don't know if it still applies if you're going back to the same team that just traded you or what...

nope. as long as a player is cut before mar 1, they are eligible to resign and make the playoff roster.
