Boston Globe wrote:According to a Clippers source, the team will announce today that it is buying out the contract of the 38-year-old guard.
NBA sources indicated that the Celtics, Mavericks, and Nuggets all are prepared to make Cassell an offer once he clear waivers in 48 hours.
It's the same article that says it's "believed" that Barry has decided to sign with PHX. It doesn't look like we're in the running for Sam, which kinda sucks...
Edit: Sorry, didn't see that this was already mentioned in the "buyouts/waived" thread. Any chance you could merge the two?

thats great news if Berry is going to be a sun. I think he was my #1 choice as a 6-7 3-pt specialist that we really needed. I would also like the suns if they get berry, talk to Cassel and see if they can get him too.
Please Berry, come to the valley of the SUNS!

If your GM and owner are serious about winning a championship. They'd get Cassell to be the backup PG. You guys have been without a quality backup pointgaurd for practically the entire time Nash has been here. Its time to get that position fixed.

Yeah, we need a quality back up PG. We could have had one, but for some reason, we keep trading our picks of PG's to other teams for cash.
We need a 3-pt threat to spread the floor more than an old cassel. As I said, if we get berry, I hope the suns try to contact him and see if there is any interest. Most likely, suns will keep it the way it is. Barbs is a horrible backup PG, and Diaw and hill to me are not doing that great of a job running the offense.

If anyone knows how to get ahold of Kerr, D'Antoni, or Jerry C, please do it ASAP and tell them to grab Cassell off waivers as soon as he hit it. There's only 2 teams that have the ability to grab him off waivers and that is the Suns and Warriors (Suns w/K.T. TPE and Warriors w/Richardson TPE). We need him as a veteran PG behind Nash and he is one of the most feared 4th quarter players in the league.
If we can get him and Barry I'd be even more freaking ecstatic for this team.

Barry can't play PG? I've seen him before. He's a hell of a lot more competent than Banks ever was.
A good pickup if it goes through, but I honestly wouldn't trust an ex-Spur.

You would have to to pay the pro-rated amount of Cassell contract, which is about $2M, plus the luxury tax for his
full contract, which would be $6.15M. Ultimately, Sam would cost you $8.2M for two months of play. I don't think you will do that.

I am pretty sure Cassell wants to go to Boston to play with KG. He's been talking about it the whole season.

Nah, we got $3 million in cash and saved another $2 million in dumping Grant's contract. That's $5 million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EDIT: oh yeah, we got a pick too, where we promptly sold it for yet another $3 million and saved another $2 million in dumping James Jones' contract. All together that's $10 million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sam's buyout seems to be official now:

I know he'll most likely end up in Boston, but still...GET HIM, KERR!!!

Kerr and Sarver should claim him off waivers using the KT TPE. That way he has to come here. It would only cost us approximately $3mil in luxury tax.
Plus they'd still be able to sign Giricek as well.

Question about waivers that I can find an answer to. Does anyone know if a team can contact an agent about a player on waivers? My reasoning is, that the Boston Globe has said that Cassell will sign with the Celtics IF he clears waivers. My question comes up, because, if the Suns would get their head out of their ass, could they talk to him or his agent to gauge his interest in Phoenix (to claim him off waivers instead of letting him clear them), if he'd enjoy playing here or would he have a conniption or have animosity towards our F.O., Kerr or Sarver for doing so.
