An Elton Brand question -

Post#1 » by JohnVancouver » Fri Feb 29, 2008 4:45 am

Because we all have nothing but time and need things to do to occupy us and fill up the lonely hours ... Elton Brand can opt out and become an unrestricted FA this summer.
My question - he will cost at least 16.5 mil, not counting luxury hit.

But how much does a championship earn an owner, Sarver for instance? Is it worth it purely from a business viewpoint? Say he signed brand for 17 mil and paid another 17 in luxury tax - would a championship[ earn 30+ mil back to pay for it. (I know that that only breaks even on the deal, which is not great business.)

Nope. He was unwilling to take on Kurt's $8 million before the season - to the point where he shipped 2 future 1sts just to get the salary moved. I doubt we even use half our MLE this offseason.

To answer your question, no, a championship will not generate that much $. Depends on a number of factors, but I'd say if the Suns went to the Finals and it went to a 7 game series, they'd be lucky if they could pay for 1/3rd of that 34 million.
