Suns after Lue? Update: Lue choses Mav's

Post#1 » by Mr. Sun » Sun Mar 2, 2008 8:06 am

Former Sacramento Kings point guard Tyronn Lue will sign with the Dallas Mavericks, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Mavericks, Phoenis Suns, Denver Nuggets and Charlotte Bobcats are among teams in need of a veteran backup at the point. Lue chose Dallas for the chance to play with Jason Kidd, who was recently acquired by the Mavericks from the New Jersey Nets.

In 11 NBA seasons, Lue has racked up 1,652 assists with only 631 turnovers. He also is an 83 percent free throw shooter.

It's not like he plays defense. He's not gonna help.

Yeah he's a free agent whore. Gotta think he knows the weaknesses though and is trying to save face with these desperate moves...

I agree whole heartedly with that part - can really see Lue-Giricek-Diaw-Amare-Shaq as a decent second unit...

given that he has 2 championship rings and it means no more barbosa at the point, id do it

from AZ central

Lue, 30, could help Phoenix at backup point as an efficient playmaker, a career 38.7 percent 3-point shooter and a quick open-court player who runs the pick-and-roll well. More importantly, Lue is a good defender to match up on point guards such as New Orleans' Chris Paul.

i didnt know he was a pick and roll type of guard - even better for us?

personally i dont see why we dont add him giricek and keep linton?

I didn't know he was either. Some have questioned his defense, but I suppose you can question any PG defense.

Yes keep Linton.

I'm at loss visualizing our potential rotation with him?

I still remember in the 01 playoffs when Lue was in the Lakers how he guarded Iverson....

Lue would be a great pickup for the reasons you mentioned above

Lue wud be the best pick up available IMO

His playmaking (and on top of if he masters the PNR!), n decent defense is exactly what we need from the PG spot off the bench.
If we get him DA HAS to play him when Nash sits, this Barbs at point experiment has gotta stop now! (It's as stupid as playin Amare at SF  . LB's a pure shooting guard)

Lue has been one of the more publicised "defensive PGs" in the league for the past 6-7 seasons. Still, I think he's a little like Bell in that his reputation is greater than his ability. Still, he's better at defending than any PG we've had for a long while.

Hell, anyone will do better than Barbosa right now. Lue is an upgrade, and has the experiance we need. Not a bad backup either.

I like the idea, and think we need to go after him hard. We need some depth, and DA needs to play our depth.

Yea, he's definitely an upgrade over Nash defensively and an upgrade over LB at the 1. So why the F not. I have never been a fan of Lue, but you never pass on a veteran PG, where we desperate need help at, who'll play for the minimum. Let's just say at this point Lue is the best option...damn...

I would actually like to see this move before Giricek.
I think Lue is a strong defense player, which the Suns certainly need, and it would be nice to actually have a second true PG on the roster

^Agreed Jazzy. I wasn't sold on him as a starter, but the guy seems to have all the credentials to be a backup for Nash. He's got a great 3 point stroke but I think he goes to DEN from what all the articles are suggesting

I'm not seeing any 'Kerr meets with Lue' which makes me think they aren't really after him
