Just FYI we also gave up another draft pick that cuda been Sergio Rodriguez or Marcus Williams that year, traded a pick that cuda landed us Iggy or Deng away, and did the same w/ Rudy Fernandez last year

They traded away the draft rights to Sergio Rodriguez to Portland for cash because they needed to sign Eric Piatkowski to a guaranteed two year deal. LOL.

This still wouldn't bother me as much as it actually does if at least we wouldn't have been in need of a PG. But looking back at it, we traded several PG prospects away during the past few years and signed Banks for a lot more money instead, like Arles mentioned already.
That's one of the moves our management made that looked pretty stupid back then already and looks even worse now.

I remember in the 2006 draft I was all over both Marcus Williams n Sergio Rodriguez, thought they were both gonna be gone by like, pick number 17 tho.
I wanted Rondo if none of em were still around.

In the end all 3 of em were still there when it was our turn to pick (and Sergio was still there at our 2nd pick), but we traded both our picks away

Then on top of it IIRC Marcus Williams and Sergio both lit us up in their first games against us

We were also banking on Barbosa to be our backup and to take after for Nash when he retires..so I guess that reinforces rsavaj's point.

It's taken the organization an awful long time to realize that Barbs is not a backup PG. He is a scoring SG. I think they just realized that which is why they were trying for Lue.

Don't forget that the Suns traded away luol deng as well.

One of the reasons they didn't like Rondo is that the scouting report said he can't shoot. Well here we are 3 years later and he still can't shoot. I have no problem with him as a player but he just wasn't a good fit for our team at the time. I wasn't bummed they passed on Williams either. Rodriguez was the only one of the 3 that bothered me. He would have been a great understudy to Nash. The Deng trade was a clear mistake. They have admitted that since. They wouldn't have taken Deng though. It was Iggy they coveted in that draft. They just never thought he would be there. Also nobody could've predicted that Chicago would make the dramatic improvement they did the next year.

PHX has made some mistakes in the draft without question. They have also had some incredible success. Shawn Marion 4x allstar at #9 in '98. Rookie of the year and 3x allstar Amare at #9 in '02. If you are going to rip them for the $ related moves they have made you also have to give them props for the great moves they made.

This is a new regime with Kerr in the drivers seat. He was backed into a corner with the KT trade. Then he showed he had the balls to make the Shaq deal. He showed some foresight by taking DJ Strawberry at #59. Has another guy taken in the bottom 1/2 of the 2nd played at all? Lets see what he can do with the ATL pick.

Agreed. Tiago wouldn't even have cost us anything this year. I wonder if SK woud've taken Alando if he knew he was going to get DJ. Let's let Tucker have a little time though.

Well, actually, it's only 2 years.

And this year his shot is much better. Decent, even.

That's true, last year he wasn't a good fit for the Suns.
This year, though, he'd be a great fit. It's only one year of waiting.
