I am a knicks fan, which isn't cool, but I was jsut wondering what you guys traded Joe Johnson and Quetian Richardon for a couple years back. I don't mean why as in it was stupid, I mean what value did you guys get in return.
Nash
Johnson
Richardson
Marion
Amare was without doubt the most enjoyable team to watch in the NBA.

Joe Johnson for Boris Diaw+2 firsts(one of which we sold to Portland I believe)
Quentin Richardson+Nate Robinson for Kurt Thomas(then traded along with 2 firsts for a conditional 2nd round pick and a TPE)
We're really awesome at trades, aren't we?

Wow getting rid of Kurt Thomas and two first makes no sense to me. But I am dealing with Isiah Thomas over here so I can't show much sympathy.

Its sick watching us mortgage our future away. And now that we have to pay 20 million a year to Shaq for two years, now I wouldn't be surprised if the trend continues. I don't think we have any major players coming off the books this year. I just hope we can make some smart decisions.

You mean you were awesome. Past tense. Bryan Colangelo > Steve Kerr

Uh, some peeps in here have short memories
Both of those trades were GENUIS at the time they happened.
Hell we maybe wudn't have even made the playoffs in 2006 if Bryan Colangelo didn't pull em off, since he did pull em off we made the Western Conf Finals instead...
1) JJ (who wasn't gonna be staying with us anyways) for Diaw ON HIS ROOKIE CONTRACT + This year's ATL pick + A pick that winded up to be Rajon Rondo, GREAT TRADE!
JJ wanted a bigger role on the team, which wasn't gonna happen (there were also rumors he didn't get along well w/ Amare).
He was gonna become a free agent at the end of the year, so best go after a trade then let him walk for nothing...
The initial trade was an absolute steal for us, 2 very good picks + a guy on his rookie contract that becomes the MIP and top 3 player on the team (that year) in exchange for a guy that won't be staying w/ us anyways
2) Kurt Thomas was also a HUGE part of the team until he got injured that year, him and Diaw did an awesome job fillin in the hole inside that was left by Amare's micro-fracture injury. Kurt def helped us out a lot more then Q-Rich wud have if he stayed
The initial trades were genius, and made us the big upset team of 2006.
AFTER THAT our management made a series of bonehead moves that screwed us over, but if our FO played their cards the right way instead of being morons those trades cuda helped us be the best team in the NBA right now

Iggy says hi.
I doubt BC would have done anything different. He sold/traded picks under Sarver's/Jerry's orders just like Kerr did.

damn JJ. he woulda been paid the same amount of money if he had stayed, i mean c'mon sarver would actually match the salary atl was going to give him. what more could he want?
oh wait, a "bigger" role and be an all-star on a crappy team.

We essentially traded for a pick that is soon to be our first possible lotto pick in god knows how long... Oh and that lazy Boris.

What should have been done was the Suns should have signed Joe to the 6/50 deal he was asking for in the summer of 04. People say hindsight is 20/20, but most Suns fans I know (including myself) were opposed to the Q deal of 6/45 and for the Joe deal.

Phnx signed Q because the ColonJellos were on a spending spree with Daddy Sarver-Bucks credit card. He was one of the last covetted free agents left...and true to form, we signed him, needs be damned....and it set the table for JJs departure

BC did this deal because he wanted to clear cap to sign Kobe. Although it didnt work out, I still say it was a good move. Imagine, Kobe, Nash, Amare and Marion.

If they signed Kobe, they wouldn't have had enough to sign Nash.

no the reason why BC sold the pick was so he can sign both nash and Kobe. Unfortunately Kobe decided to stay in LA so BC had to sign Q instead.

....there wasn't enough money to sign Nash to a 66 mill contract and Kobe to a 100+ mill contract dude, and the cash earned by selling a draft pick would not have made up the difference.
