I doubt that it is protected. I could imagine that Kerr thought about this when he made the Shaq trade. He realized that if it did not pan out, it is likely that we would still make the playoffs. He probably also assumed that the Atlanta pick would be the in lottery. Now with a lottery pick he hopes we could make another run in 2009 but if we cannot, we have our 2009 pick. That means that we can add 2 lottery picks by 2010. He then assumed that like STAT, Barbs, Diaw, two lottery picks and old man Nash could get us like the 8th seed in 2010 (when Seattle gets the other pick). That off-season Kerr will go on a spending spree too.

I doubt it. And so, that really sucks because if we don't make the playoffs, then Seattle just will continue to demolish us in the deal. MAN OH MAN

it's probably protected. I have never heard of unprotected picks in such deals ..

You are never safe from injuries etc..

I looked back and found East Valley Tribune's article from when the trade was announced. It says they are unprotected.

Wow, I just assumed it was protected. What kind of idiot doesn't protect the pick? You never know what can happen. Injuries. Suspensions. We gave away 2 lottery picks to save $ :nonono:

FYI, the Spurs protected their pick to Seattle for Kurt. Some teams' front office gets it, but ours doesn't. It doesn't matter, we would have just sold the pick had we gotten it anyway so that we could offer Ricky Davis a MLE offer.
