I used to spend all kinds of time on nba com looking at league leaders but this year I havent and I could care less about the Suns' rankings in statistical categories anymore. I knew Amare was scoring well but didnt even realize he was 6th in the league. Its impressive considering all the chuckers we have in the league, but who cares? I like to see Nash leading in assists but only because its an overall sign off good play by the team.

The only stats I look at anymore are the ones that show how well the team is playing. We've been so spoiled the last few years with guys posting numbers, winning awards, etc that it just seems like old hat. Winning is all that matters.

Yah I used to be a stat-geek. But these past couple of years I don't care. I also used to be crushed whenever the Suns lose but now its not like that, its all about the playoffs.

I'm always in awe anytime someone has more than 10 assists or 15, 20 rebounds. In terms of averages and league leaders though, eh. Doesn't really matter to me. It's the beauty of rooting for a team where numbers don't matter to the players.

Yeah I'm a stat geek...I love a good boxscore...very sexy...

I love stats myself... but when you are in the situation as a fan, that your team is fighting to stay the playoffs, stats don't matter.

Stats are for those who want to showoff and are already in an elite level.

The one thing I want to see though is 12+ RPG from O'Neal

That is pretty much me in a nutshell. Game to game I check out boxscores, moreso due to fantasy basketball. But in terms of League Leaders in any particular stat I generally don't notice it all that much.

I occasionally check out how my boy GH is doing statistically in various cats but other than that I really have no idea.

^I'd like to see a couple more, 12pts and 2blk and 30mins with ZERO dnp

I usually check Cavs, Lakers, Orlando and Denver games (for Bron, kobe, Dwight and Camby's line)

But the NBA award an assist for pretty much anything, when i see a 20 assist game i'm not too awed about it.

I only care about stats because of our fantasy league. Besides that, of course, it's nice to see Amare being up their with the scoring leaders, or Steve being on top of the assists leaders, but it doesn't really matter to me. As long as we manage to win, I don't care who gets us the win (at least not stats-wise).

Yea I use to watch the SUNS stats and brag about them, since they were like number one in every category except for rebounding over the last 3 years. And look what those stats have gotten the SUNS, nothing. What do stats tell you, a whole lot of nothing!

One stat above all stats I could care less about is individual scoring. That to me is the weakest stat. Simply because anyone who shoots the ball more then 30 times (ie...Kobe, iverson) should average more then 30 points a game. That to me is way way way more easy then getting assists, rebounding, and blocking. Those are stats. You actually have to work to get those stats! You have to go get the ball not just wait until the ball comes to you!

i agree RE: leading the league in scoring. so many guys high on the list are just volume shooter, of course they are going to score more. but amare does it taking far fewer shots and shooting a good percentage. thats as much a sign of good team play as anything

Stat geekery is still very valuable but it's more important to be familiar with the more advanced concepts than raw box score foolishness. Raw averages, ranking therein, that sort of stuff, not so valuable.

And the stats themselves do require qualitative and contextual information with them. 27 ppg is nice, but is he taking 22 shots to get those points? What are his TS% and eFG%? Etc, etc.

Stats are still loads of fun but the NBA.com stats are less interesting with each passing day because they are so meaningless.

good points. it used to be that stats were simply a point of pride and bragging rights for the players and teams you root for. now they are used to determine the universal order of the galaxies and its just a turn off.

just win games.

The worst is in baseball where people bring in all these obscure, irrelevant stats to prove that they know something when these things have no real definition of what's good and what's bad.

So stupid.

baseball freakin sucks. if it wasnt for stats, the sport would fold. all the real athletes now play hoops or football. baseball is left with steroid poppin also rans who seek only to generate STATS

Well i mean, i'm much more impressed with a 15 assist game in the NBL, for example. Because you know they are actually assists

Like you watch steve nash's 22 assists or something on nba.com, and 5 or 6 of them are just post feeds, or throw it to someone at the elbow and they drive around their defender for a lay in.
