Playoff seeding thread
The #7 team in the West is 2.5 games behind #1, with only 20 games left
#9 is 6 games behind.
This is bonkers.

I'd say San Antonio is no longer the obvious worst-case 1st-round matchup.
What would be the best and worst for you guys? I don't think there's an "easy" route, but I do know I would hate this:
1 LA
2 New Orleans
3 Utah
4 Phoenix
5 San Antonio
6 Houston
7 Dallas
8 Golden State
1 LA v 8 GSW
4 PHX v 5 SAS
2 NOH v 7 DAL
3 UTH v 6 HOU
1 LA v 4 PHX
2 NOH v 6 HOU
4 PHX v 2 NOH
That setup would mean we had to play SA, then LA, then either HOU or NOH. Yikes. It would also mean LA fans wouldn't shut up about winning the division. For me, the best-case scenario would be going through Golden State, Dallas, and Houston or San Antonio. In particular, I'd love a SAS/LAL or NOH/SAS matchup in the first round; neither team would go down lightly in the first round.
1 Houston
2 New Orleans
3 Phoenix
4 Utah
5 LA (b/c of guaranteed spot for Utah)
6 Golden State
7 San Antonio
8 Dallas
1 HOU v 8 DAL
4 UTH v 5 LAL
2 NOH v 7 SAS
3 PHX v 6 GSW
1 HOU v 5 LAL
7 SAS v 3 PHX
1 HOU v 3 PHX

The top four seeds are in order of record, but the division leaders of each of the three divisions are guaranteed a spot in the top 4. So if there's an unusually bad division, the team that leads it will be in the playoffs at the #4 seed, even if they have a worse record than #5 (or #6-8, for that matter).

i don't see how they will win against either dallas or utah. both are on fire and unbeatable at home.
amazing.
A good word for the West this year is "BONKERS" ... makes me wonder if there's ever been this much disparity.
I mean... there's four and a half games between the #1 seed and the #8 seed after ~67 games.
On the East, there are TWENTY-four (and a half) games between #1 and #8.

Im prepared to face the biggest demons on the path to victory, as it would make the championship success that much sweeter.
The best path:
GSW (killer small ball, ultimate test of our flexibility and skill)
SAS (killer half court ball, revenge)
LAL (arch nemesis and 'team to beat')
then
BOS (best finals ratings of all time) or DET (suns kryptonite)
That lineup has drama, suspense, excitement, history, fear, hope, and unpredictabilty all wrapped up into one. We would also be the underdogs in every matchup from the 'expert analysts.'

Unlikely that Houston will drop this far but hey, with 20 games to go, anything's possible..
1 PHO
2 LAL
3 NOH
4 UTA
5 SAS
6 DAL
7 GSW
8 HOU
1v8 Phoenix v Houston (Suns over a slumping rockets team)
2v7 Lakers v Warriors (Lakers win but Warriors make them work)
3v6 Hornets over Dallas (either way)
4v5 Spurs v Utah (WCF rematch, Spurs win a tough contest)
1v4 Suns v Spurs (Suns over a tired Spurs team)
2v3/6 Lakers v Mavs/ Hornets (Lakers come out but absorb a pounding by the Hornets or a shootout with the Mavs)
1v2 Suns v Lakers (Suns too strong for a weary Laker squad)
