Despite having a far poorer record in comparison?

We're 46-22 they're 45-24...

Because they lead their division.

Its the 3 best records and if a division winner doesnt have one of the three best records they get 4th, so all 3 division winners finsih somehwhere in the top 4 regardless of record.

Not sure, maybe they own the tie break on us? I cant remember whether we lost to them or not but i think that would have to be the case.

i hate the seeding... should be top 16 records across both conferences and considering the 1st in each division for top seeds. lame!

I wouldn't worry about Houston. They had a very nice streak but unofortuantely they will slide down in the seeding before playoff time. I am not counting them out of the playoffs but you gotta imagine Alston and McGrady can only carry so much.

And whoever Houston faces in the playoffs, I wish them luck because they are going to get pounded on the inside.

I hate the way the system works. Right now if the playoffs were to start today we would play Utah and they would have home court advantage despite us having a better record.

As for why Houston being ahead of us I am pretty sure it is because of the following reason. The season series is tied at 1 all but they have a better conference record with 24-14 to our 24-18.

last year the jazz were the fourth seed and played the rockets who were the fifth seed, but the rockets had home court because they had a better record. it is a dumb rule

If it were seeded by conference leaders, then record across both conferences these would be the matchups (these positions are easy enough to find with this order:

1 BOS vs. 16 NJN
2 NOH vs. 15 GSW
3 DET vs. 14 PHI
4 LAL vs. DAL
5 HOU vs. WAS
6 ORL vs. SAS
7 UTH vs. TOR
8 CLE vs. PHX

Some pretty interesting matchups in there. CLE vs. PHX, SAS vs. ORL. But all the interesting ones are between western foes.

I think you may be mistaken mate, i'm pretty sure that if we finish 5th and Utah 4th, we would still have home court in that 1st round due to the better record.

Seedings only determine matchups, homecourt advantage still goes to the team with the better record. :)

Yeah you are correct. As the other guy posted about Utah and Houston last season. But it is still a crock that it determines the match ups.

We would be matched up with Utah as I posted before, but in actual fact they only have the 6th best record in the West and should actually (by record) be facing the Rockets (3rd) and us (4th) the Spurs (5th).

Ummmmm KP, why did you feel the need to take an item of clothing off???

It should go to the teams with the best records IMO.

If it did it would look like so...

1. Boston vs 16. Raptors
2. Detroit vs 15. Wizards
3. Lakers vs 14. Portland
4. Hornets vs 13. Cavs
5. Rockets vs. 12. Denver
6. Suns vs 11. Golden State
7. Spurs vs 10. Dallas
8. Orlando vs 9. Utah

Go Stern make this happen! Phx-GS matchup!

I'm going to make believe this could happen and make some predictions. This is so much more fun than normal playoffs.

1. Boston in 5.
2. Detroit in 5(6 if Arenas comes back and is semi-healthy).
3. Lakers in 5.
4. I think the Cavs win this one. The Hornets have NOBODY who can stop Lebron. He'd probably average 35-10-10 in this series. Cavs in 6.
5. I think this is one matchup the Rockets can win. The Nuggets don't have anyone that can take advantage of the Rockets lack of size. Rockets in 7.
6. Suns in 6. And it would be one hell of a series.
7. Spurs in 6. Dallas just isn't looking very good.
8. Utah in 6. I don't think Orlando can stop Utah's pick and role.

Round 2.
1. Boston vs Utah... Boston is just too good here. Boston in 6.
2. Detroit vs Spurs... I'm getting bored just thinking about this series. Spurs aren't looking as sharp this year. Detroit in 7.
3. Lakers vs Suns... I'd prefer to meet the Lakers early in the po's than later. Bynum won't have many games under his belt. I think we take them in 7 games.
4. Cavs vs Rockets... Sorry Houston, you have a problem, and his name is Lebron James. Cavs in 6.

Semifinals

Boston vs Cavs... As good as Lebron is, he doesn't have the supporting cast to beat a team like Boston. Boston in 7.
Detroit vs Suns... Suns take revenge on the drudging the Pistons gave them in February. Suns in 7.

Finals

Boston vs Suns... As good as Garnett is, he lack's a second big man to help out on Shaq or Amare. Garnett can only guard one of them. Amare is named Finals MVP as Suns win in 6 games.
