Friction between Giri and Bell?

Post#1 » by enigmatics » Mon Apr 21, 2008 10:15 pm

..........Jeff Dean on Xtra Sport 910 just made a comment that there appears to be some friction between Giri and Bell, that Bell flatout won't pass him the ball. Maybe he's just making a random assumption, but I would hope there's no truth to this.

He could argue he isn't getting enough minutes too. D'Antoni played him 12 mins and LB 41 mins. That is nutty against the Spurs.

It also could be something from when they both were in Utah.

These guys are professionals and should know better to put the past behind them especially in the playoffs.

no way in hell does bell not pass someone the ball if he has beef with them

he may have beef but if so then its only a coincidence that he didnt pass the ball

or he doesnt have beef and someone is reading too much into a non pass of the ball

whichever it is, its just speculative journalism designed to create interest by suggesting conflict

I've seen Bell get annoyed at Giri a few occasions when he does his stupid pul up jumper when he should of passed to an open man or reset the play so maybe there is some truth to it

I think more is being made of this then there really is. I don't see it (not saying it isn't there) hurting the team. Personally I could care less if they like each other. If they have want to go after practices and games and throw darts each other, what does it matter. I think its people trying to stir up stuff. "The haters are trying to hate." :)

I really don't like Jeff Dean maybe its because he's a UoA guy. He seems to me to not really know what he's talking about half the time. I remember him saying the Lakers had an easy schedule down the strech and pointed out that they played the Clippers and the Kings, but left out the fact that they still had Spurs and Hornets. Granted they won those games, but still. Back on topic I really didn't see anything between them, but Giri only played 12 minutes so who knows.

Barbosa's contract is pretty reasonable by today's standards. I could see him fitting in very well with a team that has a primary ball handler. I.E. Cavs with Lebron or Portland with Roy.

Barbosa's not getting dealt. Let's calm ourselves on that idea.

TBH i don't think anyone was bashing Barbosa just that Giri should've played more minutes. I am on the Barbosa bandwagon and would like to keep him here as long as possible.

why the hate on Barbs and the love for Giri?

EXPECTATIONS

Barbs isn't as good as we thought he was. And he is even worse versus the Spurs historically. He cant guard Fins or Manu cause he is too small, therefore if Vaughn or Bowen are not on the court for him to guard, he shouldn't be playing. Hill, Giri, or Bell should be in to gaurd those guys.

And he was 0 for 3 behind the arc, only scored on runnouts; but, without making many turnovers, grabbing 8 boards and scoring 12 points it was by far his best game against the Spurs that I can remember.

This year alone, discounting his disappearance act in playoff series past;
He went 6 of 19 and 2 for 10 without Parker playing; followed by a 3 for 13 performance; he did however cap it off going 6 for 9 in a game that was never really close. With the way Barbs has struggled against the Spurs this year and throughout his career, he should not be getting as many minutes as he got on Saturday, and he definately should not be in the game when defensive stops are needed; atleast Giri will committ the foul and make them earn it. Giri is a vet who gets despite not being the most gifted player on the court, Barbs is the exact opposite.

And as for Bell and Giri, who cares. But if one were to speculate, maybe Bell feels threatened since he is on the downward slope and Giri seems to still be in his prime even though they are only a year apart. Giri is also a better offensive player, playing for a coach who values putting points up more than he does getting defensive stops. If Giri is here next year, he will cut into Bell's minutes for sure. Which for all those keeping track at home is another reason to trade Barbs in the offseason.
