With D'Antoni now in New York, he may want to make some changes with the roster. This move for them is lateral for the most part, but gains 2 guys who know his system and a better ball distributer.

For Indy, the move is pretty lateral as well. They get rid of 2 guys they really dont want and in return they get players better suited for their system as well as one of the best 6th men in the league.

For the Suns, they get better defensively and a good 3pt threat, but they also gain some health issues.

NY Gets: Tinsley, Shaq, and Diaw

Shaq would work well, pushing Curry to the 4. Tinsley is the better ball manager for D'Antoni's system and Diaw is the perfect distributor in the middle.

Indy Gets: Marbury, Randolph, and Barbosa

Marbury gets his last hurahh to prove he can still play and help this young team. Randolph is a bit redundant with Murphy, however one starts and one backs up and you have consistancy at the 4, or can run small ball with one at the 4 and one at the 5 with Granger, Barbosa and Marbury. Nothing needs to be said with the addition of Barbosa.

PHX Gets: Jermaine, Dunleavy and Lee.......for this deal I would even be willing to give up the 15th pick.

Jermaine would be the perfect compliment next to Amare. He's better defensively than Shaq and is younger. Dunleavy gives another ball-handler than flourishes in a spread offense. Lee is the perfect back-up 3/4 for Amare, Hill, and Dunleavy.

I don't really like the deal for PHX.

i like our end of the deal there, but is jermaine oneal injury prone?

Shaq is injury prone as well. So essentially we are talking about a lineup like this?

Nash/Strawberry
Bell/Giricek
Dunleavy/Hill
Amare/Lee
O'Neal/#15/Skinner

I think this still leaves us fairly weak defensively, but not any worse. I like Lee off the bench, but is he a 1yr rental?

I like Dunleavy. I think he is better than Diaw in many facets of the game. With that being said, the only thing he brings to us is 3pt shooting, and passing. He isn't going to be running many plays with Nash in the game. We become a worse perimeter defending team with Him and Nash on the floor.

O'Neal: At this point of his career, I believe you are correct in believing he is a better defender than O'Neal. Is he a better fit though? As I know you are aware, so much of the game is spacing. O'Neal and Amare play a similar role on offense. Neither one is know for playing the low post. I think Nash could make it work. I just don't see us contending with this group.


Ultimately I'm not in love with this trade, but it's not bad.

Shaq and Curry make a terrible front court. Same reasons to why Curry and Randolph are a bad combo. NY wouldn't do this.

I was hoping for something more along the lines of this

I'm a knicks spy and we wouldn't do this deal. We'd only probably trade Zach and Curry together for Shaq. I would do Lee for Diaw too. We wouldn't trade Marbury just to get back Tinsley.

Imagine Randolph, Curry and Stoudemire as the rotation PF/C for Suns...

Geez, would probably be the WORST defensive front court by a significant margin. Not enough shots also to go along between those 3.


I wouldnt mind Randolph being the sixth man, as he can play C and PF, and score... although he'd need to adjust from scoring from isolation plays to being a good target for Nash and the fast ball movement.

No to Curry.

Diaw for Lee??

Hmmm... if Suns can get another post option (as above, Randolph) I'd do this trade. Diaw is a better passer, but Lee brings in the big, hustling body the Suns need. He'd be the "bigger" Marion replacement in terms of rebounding.


O'Neal + Diaw for Randolph + Lee and Robinson OR Balkman

That would okay I suppose.

Robinson is an explosive scorer off the bench and tremendous energy guy.
Balkman is another hustler/defender at the 3/4.

Would depend on who Suns get in the draft, if a PG then I'd go for Balkman, as Strawberry, the draft pick would be getting some time to rest both Nash and Bell under the new coach... You'd HOPE so anyways.

I'd then trade Barbosa for a top 10 pick, or another top 15 pick + a shooter/defender.

So new lineup would be. (With Balkman instead of Robinson)

C: Randolph/Skinner OR Draft Pick/ Stoudemire
PF: Stoudemire/Lee/Randolph
SF: Hill/Lee/Balkman/FA/Tucker
SG: Bell/Giricek/Draft Pick/Tucker
PG: Nash/Draft Pick/Strawberry

Size up front, are 6'9/6'9/6'10... a bit undersized.


With Robinson instead of Balkman

C: Randolph/Skinner OR Draft Pick/ Stoudemire
PF: Stoudemire/Lee/Randolph
