OH NO: Starbury Might be Returning!!!!

In one of the greatest ironies...
One of the first plays Mike D'Antoni is expected to draw up as the Knicks' new coach is for Stephon Marbury to run up the Garden floor ... and out the door back to Phoenix to rejoin the Suns.
Once D'Antoni is formally named to succeed Isiah Thomas, he is expected to try to make a push for two of his favorite Suns - forward Boris Diaw and guard Leandro Barbosa, who reportedly have fallen out of favor with Suns management. According to a person close to D'Antoni, one of his first moves would be to get the Knicks to offer Marbury and his expiring $22 million contract as a central part of the deal.

Sorry I did not list this in offseason thread, but it seemed important enough to be separate for now.
I guess the Suns would have a backup PG (a moody one), and a heck of a lot cash off the books. Chris Paul is a RFA after the season... The Knicks might be a good dumping ground yet again. This might be like dumping Marbury in the first place, allowing the Suns to retool. Heck we could even get Marion back if he wanted. The Suns might not have much of a let down in talent or record if this happens.

On another note, Mike D is looking at TJ Ford. If the Knicks got those 3, they just might be a playoff team next year.
Regarding the Starbury trade, the article states suns need to send 5 million more. That works out to Raja Bell unfortunately. I think it would be better to go like Dallas and sign someone like Marks to that, just to trade him.

I say we do it since we get relieved of alot of space next year. As for Marbury will he really not cancer it up and play 10 mins a game?

On one hand, $22 million smackeroos coming off the books is nice.
On the other hand, it's friggin' Starbury.

firstly - i would be ALL FOR getting marbury here as a backup PG
secondly, this is just BS New York speculative journalism with the same rubbish that comes out of new york all year long
tho that said, i totally expect dantoni to try to get barbs and diaw, 2 players he seemed to favour even when they were sucking, so he obviously loves them, but for this article to say they have fallen out of favour with the suns is BS, especially when Kerr has been saying that one of the disagreements he and dantoni had was in relation to diaw who kerr thinks should be spending more time at SF and not PF or C. It also states that Sarver was extremely happy with diaws late season play.
that said, i expect the knicks to push for some suns players, including diaw and barbs (perhaps nash also who makes his offseason home in new york) but i highly doubt anything happens there.

I would say Kerr and Sarver are pretty stupid to do this deal. If I was them I wouldnt do anything to help DA out. Ford if good but He has a bad back. Lets not forget DA still has Eddy Curry and Randolf. Lets not forget too that DA is going to NY for the money. Chicago has better chance of becoming a playoff basketball team but he didnt go there because Chicago is use to winning.

Suns would need a deal like this because they need to get multiply players in return to make a 13 man roaster which won't be easy. I'd only offer the #49 and not the #15. They are making out as bandits as it is in the trade.

Yes, as stated by the 2 previous posters said, the Suns would HAVE to get the Knicks 1st round pick in any deal with the Suns, and WITHOUT sending out the #15 pick.
With the 2 picks....#5 go Bayless, Jordan, Mayo, Lopez
#15....Westbrook, McGee, Thompson, Greene, Alexander

Suns trade:
Nash, Diaw, Barbosa
Knicks trade:
Marbury, Balkman, Nate Robinson, +#5
NY finally gets a playoff team... Suns rebuild on the fly... Perhaps moving #5 and #15 for #2 to draft Rose.
Also Suns move Shaq for 09 expirings.

That last trade is absolutely terrible for the Suns. Just disgusting. Diaw is barely a negative value, Barbosa is on a great deal, and Nash is on a very reasonable contract for 2 more years (1 if the team opts out and pays him like half the salary).
Also, I just don't think it makes sense to trade away 2 of your 3 good young players if you are trying to rebuild.

well, did i miss a point or why are we rebuilding???
all we need to do right now is to add a back up pg and maybe a defensive minded sf... the rest of this team is set. if we could add one or two
good players than i think we

Trading Diaw and Barbosa (our only young valuable players aside from Stat) is a terrible idea.
Also, even with those 22 million dollars off the cap next year I doubt we can get a max player...and Chris Paul he's going to sign a max contract...

Starbury ain't coming off NOBODY'S bench. If he had the right attitude, then we would probably be set at PG and could move on to other things, but he doesn't. And him playing the SG spot might be okay on the offensive end, but even though he is an average defender, he would get thrashed by the bigger SG in the league. He would be most effective off the bench and I am telling you this man ain't comin off the bench

I just want to add that the Knicks are on crack if they think they will get Ford for Crawford. Colangelo is not an idiot... and Crawford is.

this is good but there is no reason to throw in the #15. we are giving our former coach two players he likes. why help him out anymore.
lee is a player i would love to have here. im lukewarm about balkman and jeffries, and that expiring will make sarver happy.
i have been all about getting rid of diaw and barbosa for a while now. i like diaw more but his contract sux and he isnt assertive enough for my tastes.
anyways that isnt a bad trade but i see no reason to give up our 15.

Marbury is the best PG in the league, remember?
