Would Phoenix consider rebuilding now?

From a distance it appears Phx really missed the window to win a Championship in the West. The Lakers, N.O, Utah, Houston and the Spurs really seem to be the teams of the future/present over there as of now. If a team like Bucks offered the #8 pick and an expiring for Nash any shot Kerr would consider it? It happenned with Ray Allen in Boston last year. Also what if Miami offered the #2 and an expirings for Amare. You would have 2 Top 10 picks this year. A guarantee of Rose or Beasley and good room after the season to sign a high end free agent. I know Nash and Amare are loved, but does it make sense to consider moving 1 or both. Or is the consensus is this team still can win the west?
1. Chicago
2. Miami
3. Minnesota
4. Seattle
5. Memphis
6. New York
7. LA Clippers
8. Milwaukee
9. Charlotte
10. New Jersey
11. Indiana
12. Sacramento
13. Portland
14. Golden State

Rebuilding now is not in the mind of Kerr and Sarver...besides, it would be difficult to do even if they wanted. We got 3 big contracts who eat the majority of our salary cap and it's impossibile to go after a big FA next year even if we unload one of the biggest contracts (Shaq or Nash). The only possibility for rebuilding is 2010 when Nash and Shaq come off the books.

No chance we re-build with these guys
Call us in March and if we're at or below .500 I could see them moving Amare for BIG future talent/picks

-- The only consensus that matters is -- Sarver's and Kerr's, which we all imagine means Sarver, period. He's selling out the arena as is, the team will be decently competitive as is but not likely a contender when the nut-cutting begins and it looks like vets for the minimum and draftees, at least for the next year.
Money, money, money - which is fair enough, he owns the business. He's a banker - why would he futz with a moneymaker?
Nash has one more guaranteed year here, Shaq is on the books for two more at $20mil. Amare is the future franchise player and I can't see them selling him for Beasley. The fans would turn on them. And so would Stat - he and Shawn are not exactly friendly.
I would guess they will blow it up after next season unless something wonderful happens but not before.

Can you elaborate on that?
What does Amare and Marion's relationship have to do with Sarver?
Marion and Amare are not friends, but Shawn Marion is one of the friendliest guys in the NBA from what I understand.
Can you clarify what you meant?
Thanks.

He means if we move Amare to MIA for their pick

^, OK. Thanks!
Man, imagine how scary a team with Wade/Marion/Amare would be!
This team is in a "win-now" mode; there's no way they would have traded for a 36 year old Shaq who will be making $ 40,000,000 over the next two years.
They would have kept Marion instead of making the trade.
Man, I'm still so angry Grant got hurt at the end of the season!

Yeah it simply doesn't make sense to blow it up this year. I don't see them just trading away players for picks. Most of our contracts only have two years left on them anyway. Here is how I see it. They think they have a good shot next year. The season ticket holders will probably sell out all the season tickets again for next year. This means that if they are not competitive they at least minimize their losses. If the Suns can make it to the playoffs and win at least one round, I would expect them to accept the team option and have Nash come back for another year. If the team completely bust, they will decline Nash's option and that will immediately cure the luxury tax problem. They will sit on Shaq's expiring contract and have a ton of cap room in 2010.
As for STAT, I only think he gets traded if he does not improve on the defensive end. If he learns to play defense, we will probably rebuild around him.

We are not going to salary dump Nash.
We are not going to trade Nash away for picks and bench-warming garbage players.
I understand the desire for other .500 teams to have Nash for the last year or two of his contract to see if they can make a push into the playoffs, but for the things that Nash has done for Phoenix, there is nothing in my mind that would see Nash leaving the Valley of the Sun.
Anyone that would tell you otherwise is simply being selfish and ungrateful.

Agree with Sun Scorched. Nash deserves all our respect. We've been great this past 4 yeasr mostly because of him. PERIOD.
We will exercise the option on Nash's contract unless HE himself tells us not to do it (by the way, that's something I believe he would do, in order to give us a better chance to sign some player) and ask to be signed to the minumum or a lesser contract.

This isn't that far out there. Nash admires the Spurs organization and the fact that Tim Duncan took a cut in order to bring in other talent... I think Nash would emulate that if he could and was still willing to play.
G07enKs got it right.

I would be nice to think that, but there is no indication that he will opt out for leser money. I know, the guy is really nice and so forth, but that is a lot of money to leave on the table. I only can see it if he still thinks he has gas in the tank, and wants to finish a sun and would take a longer, cheaper contract. That would be nice tho.

I think TOR might try and lure him...BC...obviously Canada's only NBA team...close to his home in NY

You are right. Nash could end up signing for less like Duncan did. He could also end up in a Spurs uniform in that same process as well. Just saying. Depends if we can win a Ship in the next two seasons or if the Spurs are still in contention and how hungry Nash is for a ring before leaving the league.

first things first, we need to move Barbs and Diaw. Then if we want to move Nash and rebuild, we use the team option and package him to another team, we don't let him go for nothing.

I'd rather keep Diaw to be honest. The guy has potential to be really solid starter at 3 positions, how many guys can say that in this league? He showed he can be a primary ball handler and I'd rather see what a new coach can do with him...that being said he and Amare haven't shown they can do anything together yet. I don't understand why we don't see the Diaw-Amare oop like we saw with Marion...

I wanted to make this post a new thread but I didn't wan't TASTIC yelling at me.
Here is our solution gentlemen. Several long minutes of thinking and a few beers have helped me to see the light. Are you ready?
Phoenix trades Diaw for Hinrich. Salaries work. Chicago needs to unload Hinrich and Diaw is the type of utility player that would compliment Rose perfectly.
Phoenix trades Barbosa to New York in a package that inludes Lee. I've looked at this and it has to be a three team deal. Send Tucker to the other team in the deal. Several teams seem like they would work... Several teams could help out with a S&T. Toronto for example with Delfino. D'antoni wants Barbs, we would be stupid if we didn't play to that.
We ship out the two tweeners we have on our team. Hinrich backs up Nash (still don't like his price tag... but I'd rather have him than Diaw) and Lee fills the "hole" left by Diaw. The three team deal would mean that we take back some bench warmers (expirings) that will begin to help our cap situation in the near future.
PG - Nash/Hinrich
SG - Bell/Strawberry
SF - Hill/Giriceck
PF - Stoudemire/Lee
C - O'Neal/Skinner
This asumes you can sign Giriceck and Skinner for the vet. mins. Throw the #15 wherever you want. Can we get NY's pick? I chose not to speculate that much, but its' possible if the #15 is involved. This also doesn't include the guys we would get in the three team deal.
Weak bench? You bet ya. But it is going to be that way regardless. I think Hinrich severely improves our playmaking when Nash is out. Lee would make sure we don't miss too many easy rebounds. Giri has balls and Skinner is a great shot-blocker. DJ would help out defensively.
I see this as our best-case. I like Lee and kinda like Hinrich. But I don't want to see Barbs with the ball anymore. I cannot take it. This gives our future coach a legit team and the chance to mold as he sees fit. With Barbs and Diaw you are kinda stuck with Mike's view of a basketball team.

As a note to my previous post... the three team deal would see us getting the S&T player. I worked with Delfino, TOR would sign him to the salary that would make the deal work and it would still be a salary we would be happy with.
The key is to make sure that our love for PHX doesn't leave team x getting shafted in the deal. TOR would need pieces back as well. Balkman for example...
If you throw Delfino into all that...
PG - Nash/Hinrich
SG - Bell/Strawberry
SF - Hill/Delfino/Giriceck
PF - Stoudemire/Lee
C - O'Neal/Skinner
Plus a pick in there somewhere? It really isn't that bad.
Again, I'm drunk and things that don't normally make sense now do... so feel free to offer constructive criticism... if your just plain mean I might cry.
Then I will kill you.

Calm down, I haven't yelled at anyone or abused them for starting new threads - I merely lock them and provide a link/PM the poster to let them know something very similar has already been created on that particular subject matter. Are you saying a new thread needs to be started for EVERY idea someone has? Go through the threads on the front page and you'll see your ideas are nothing new. Diaw for Hinrich has been mentioned already, and as soon as DA took the NY job EVERYONE said 'Barbosa for Lee'.
So thank you, case in point as to why we don't need dozens of new thread started every day.
