In the summer of 2010, if Amare opts out... and he can get a deal starting at 30% of the cap... 6 years in length... with 10.5% max increases it will look like this.

Assuming the Cap is at $66.67 million which is a fair estimate IMO

10-11: $20.0 mil
11-12: $22.1 mil
12-13: $24.2 mil
13-14: $26.3 mil
14-15: $28.4 mil
15-16: $30.5 mil

TOTAL 6 years $151.5 million <--- This is what a team can sign its own FA to.

That's the type of MAX salary a guy like Bosh, Wade, Lebron, Amare...

If Bosh, Lebron, Wade, or Amare wanted to switch teams it'd be a 5 year deal with 8% increases...

10-11: $20.0 mil

12-13: $23.2 mil
13-14: $24.8 mil
14-15: $26.4 mil
Total 5 years $116 million So a player would have to leave, in theory, about $35 million and 1 year on the table to sign with a different team.

as for the OP, i totally believe amare will be offered the Max, but i believe the suns will be trying to include a team option for year 6, but time will tell

Stoudemire better be a 29/11/2.5/2 player to justify 150 MILLION dollars.

I don't care who says what, no one gives up $35mil for a ring. Also, We will have massive amount of capspace in the 2010 season. Nash (11m), Shaq(20m), Bell (5m), all come off in that year. Depending on what trades we make, we may get another 2 guys at 2-4 million off that same year. Lets just go with nash+shaq+bell, thats 36million off the book. Say we are still at around 70mil before this happens, that makes us go down to 34mil. Say if Amare opts out of the deal to resign, he takes another 17off. Leaving us at: 17million on the book. Which inturn means we can sign him at 20, another at 20, (lebron+amare?), which gives us 57mil. And still enough space to fill out the roster. If your numbers were true that is. The salary cap limit hasn't gone up by 5million consistently EVER, why do you think it will happen now? That would be ridiculous. 2 Superstars (LeBron AND Amare) + another 10mil before go over just the cap space, not even into the lux treshold. god damn thats a pipe dream for $arver....

It is doubtful that he opts out, since the current CBA with the Players union is up the following season, and it is likely that after a new deal is reached he will be able to get even more money. The only forseeable way I see him signing a new deal in 2010 is if he has personal doubts regarding his knees and wants to guarentee himself a big payday.

That being said, barring injury, Amare will be getting a max deal when he wants it, whether it be in 2010 or 2011. Amare does not own any part of the Suns, however he is an invester in the W hotel that Sarver is planning on building in Downtown Phoenix. I think one of the biggest reasons that Amare has not fallen into the pitfalls that many teams drafting 2-8 in his draft thought he would, is because of the strong relationships that Colangelo and then Sarver developed with him. Therefore, it is doubtful that he would bolt for the tune of $30 million less.

I don't think owners can afford that kind of money. I see the CBA changing a great deal.

Lebron, Wade, Bosh, and Amare will opt out get these huge deals and then the NBA will be forced to change the CBA the following summer.

Bad news for any team that signs one of those 4 IMO, because I think those 4 are the only players who are 7 year vets who will get the Max that summer.

Kobe could opt out that summer too and get a deal starting at 35% of the cap which would be just insane... I'd guess close to 6 years $175 million... A max deal for Kobe would have him starting at about $23 million with around $2.4 million per year increases.

An article stated that Lebron may try to convince Amare to join his team. I would be sad to see that happen and locking him up for the max may be the best decison.

As big as Marion's ego and sense of self worth was/is, Amare's dwarfs his...He knows other teams will pay it for him, whereas Marion must know he's not getting paid

Besides, Mace is right (can't believe I just typed that ): Amare will ask for the max, no doubt about it, and, at least judging from the current perspective, we will pay the man what he wants. He's our franchise player, and with Shaq's (HALLELUJAH!!!) and Steve's contracts expiring, there's no reason not to resign him since
a) we got the money and
b) having capspace doesn't necessarily mean we'll be able to lure a guy like Bron or Wade over, especially not with our best player gone, which means there's no reason to risk losing one of the best big men in the league who's in his prime just to take the gamble of PROBABLY getting one of the few even better players in the league. Not to mention we might, as proven by the OP, even still sign a top free agent after resigning STAT.

IF Amare wants to stay with us and hasn't pulled some totally retarted crap or got another bad injury that puts his career in question, then we'll definitely give him the contract he wants.

Sarver will give him the max for the obvious marketing purposes. If he works on his defense and rebounding then he'll deserve it.
