It's conceivable that everyone knew this but me, but i discovered today that pretty much all of SI's articles going back to the early 70s and further, are online and freely searchable. I just reread all the main Pete Maravich pieces and a bunch of stuff from my youth.
very cool rainy day fun -

SI.com

just search for whatever your interested in - if you search "Shaq" yout a huge number of hits, moving backward chronologically to the first story they ran.

If you search Oscar Robertson, you get them starting further back

Nash has 914 hits but if you leapfrog back through the pages you can get the first stories,
