Its because of age, he is too young to be a team captain.

It's little things like these that tick of players, the same thing that happened with JJ and Marion will most likely happen with Amare. He will get fed up and want to go somewhere where he's appreciated. Amare's like 25-26 and yet the Suns still treat him like a rookie, if Suns management feels he's the franchise player why not make him a captain? Almost any other team would have made Amare a captain but I guess all we can do is wait and see what happens...

I understand hell probably be a bit upset about this decision, but clearly he is not ready to lead. People who don't watch basketball could probably see that.

While I agree that Amare's leadership skills aren't that great, I'd be kinda pissed if I was him.

He was a captain last year, he's arguably our best player (altho Nash is the most important of course), and he's also the guy on our roster that's been in a Suns uni for the longest time now that Matrix is gone.

Captain is just a title, doesn't necessarily go to the best leaders. Barnes was a GSW captain last year for example and he didn't have an important role on their team.

I think it would have been best to go with one of those 3. None have egos half as big or are as insecure as Amare...

He definitely needs to work on his leadership skills. He's not even a lead by example kinda guy since he only plays on one end of the court. Only issue I have is Shaq being a captain. I don't think he deserves the captain title. If his title is justified because he plays defense, then I think Raja should be given the title instead of him since he is the best defender on our team.

As for Amare, his time will come, he shouldn't make a big deal outta it.

The Suns players voted for Steve Nash, Shaquille O'Neal and Grant Hill to be the team's captains.

it was the players who decided, unlike last year, he became a captain because the coaching staff? not sure though

How could anyone possibly say that Steve Nash isn't a leader?
How could anyone possibly say that Grant Hill isn't a leader?
How could anyone possibly say that Shaquille O'Neal isn't, if not a leader, at least a goofy mentor?

And having four team leaders - a third of the team - would just be silly.

Amare's gotta own up to the fact that he's playing with some of the best gentlemen in the league -- it's no insult to ANYONE that they're not as awesome a leader as Steve Nash or Grant Hill.

Seniority is a big issue. I think that Nash is obviously a choice no one will mess with and I think even Amare respects the decision to name Shaq a captain. Shaq's been there are done that to the tune of 4 titles in 6 chances, including three in a row. Just out of respect for Shaq's legacy, which is (IMO) top-10 all-time, you have to imagine Amare wouldn't pitch a fit... especially since he's a big fan of Shaq.

Grant Hill is well-respected all around the league and is a good leader, nice guy, etc.

I really don't see the drama. As long as Amare gets fed the ball in his spots and is a feature in the offense (and they win), I think he'll be fine.
