Detroit gets raped. Billups by himself already > AI, then they get Dice too
Nugz get back in playoff discussion if that deal goes down, and JR Smith blows up (yay for my fantasy team)

Bucher's saying that Denver's gonna buy out Dice b/c Samb is included in the deal, and Dice will go back to DET. If that's true then I think DET doesn't get too bad a deal. Man, the West just got tougher. I think we can pencil DEN back in as a playoff threat.

My thoughts on this trade is that I think it is pretty fair, nuggets need defense and detroit needs more offense, I personally see this as a pretty even trade, although it makes denver a little more tough in the west.

Re: OT: Allen Iverson traded for Chauncey Billups/Antonio McDyes
Wouldn't have picked the Pistons to make such a major move, like the spurs they are perennial playoff contenders. Is this a sign that they are flying the white flag this year and gearing up for the future?
Iverson expires this year, as does Sheed. That means a massive $35M comes off their books at the end of the season; with their young talent (Stuckey, Johnson, Maxiell, Affalo, even Prince) reloading might be the best thing for them right now.
So Iverson will start at PG, and maybe play some SG when Stuckey comes in? Will be interesting to see if it all comes together.
Denver will probably be a little more efficient with an upgrade at PG but I don't think it will be enough to compensate for their horrible frontcourt. I still think both the Blazers and Clippers are ahead of them in the west.

DET will be gunning for Boozer...
They know they can let Iverson go and Stuckey will go straight in as the starter...Quite a big move though for sure...
So JR will move into the starting lineup, Karl will love Billups that's for sure.

Eek.
The only 'solid citizens' in there are Gordon and Marion...The rest have ego/insecurity issues

Word is that they're going to buy out Dice and he'll be a FA. I hate the man for ditching PHX TWICE, but I can't deny his skills, and he would really help shore up our bench, which is a mixture of inexperienced(Dragic, Lopez) and inconsistent(Diaw, Barbosa). The one guy we can depend on is Hill, and I think adding McDyess would give us another solid bench guy.

You know, even if it doesn't work out for DET, they still have massive cap room and great young prospects to go forward with after this year. I wish Kerr was more Dumars-ish.

Would looooooove to have McDyess but it sounds like he doesn't want to move and will be staying in Detroit.
Billups should be a nice fit for the Nuggets. Why in the world didn't they keep Camby? They would've been a lot better defensively to go along with Carmelo's scoring.
Love this for the Pistons. They now have a scorer to go with that defense. If it doesn't work out they have a ton of capspace at the end of the year. Dumars is such a solid GM.

Re: OT: Allen Iverson traded for Chauncey Billups/Antonio McDyes
if Denver gets their act together they could be another team that we have to fight with for a playoff spot. I don't know what moves can be made, but I think we need to try to improve our roster somehow. I don't think Barbo is going to do so well in a slower system, and while Diaw is actually being aggressive this year, I'd still like some consistency. I wonder what NJ would want for Vince Carter....

Same thing, and as I said there, lets hope the pistons somehow go on a 20game losing streak so we can pick up some cheap pistons at the trade deadline.

Good move by both teams. Pistons will get get cap relief from AI's expiring and scoring. Nug's get something in return they need NOW.

Re: OT: Allen Iverson traded for Chauncey Billups/Antonio McDyes
Honestly, this trade doesn't make sense for either team short term, and not for Denver long term either!
Detroit gets A.I. who is a scoring machine but little else. His defense is just above Nash's, which is saying very little, and I don't consider A.I as a leader. Who is now the leader of the Pistons? Sheed??? LOL
Denver gets an aging Billips. A champion who will give leadership and respect to a team which hasn't had any for awhile. Problem is the 4 years he has left on his contract, and lets be honest, he hasn't been in 04 self since....well 04.
Mcdyess won't play a game in Denver if the reports are correct. Either he goes back to Detroit or he should sign with the Suns. He should return the favor as the Phoenix training staff healed him as they known to do. He can shore up our lackluster bunch (which was supposed to be great this year) by benching Diaw (if he plays like his countryman fight) and not relying on a rookie Lopez

Re: OT: Allen Iverson traded for Chauncey Billups/Antonio McDyes
I don't like this trade. Billups was given his contract so he could be part of their future. Maybe not as starter but a backup for Stuckey once he's ready. I don't see why DEN would do this trade either, they are obviously attempting to rebuild on the fly by sending DPOY Camby to LAC for cap relief which kind of goes against trading for an aging vet with years left on his contract.
imo DET should have kept Billups and let Sheed expire instead of trading him to get A.I's expiring. Contracts aside, their respective game doesn't work for either teams. As SWSW mentioned before A.I is a volume scorer whose defense is many notches down from what Billups gives DET. As for DEN, I honestly believe that if they want to make playoffs, they would need all the offense they could get from A.I and Melo. The other day they pushed LA to OT with no defense. Now they add a defense guy and lose a major contributor on the offensive end. This trade won't get them into playoffs, especially when their only real offensive guys are Melo and J.R.
Bad trade imo.

Re: OT: Allen Iverson traded for Chauncey Billups/Antonio McDyes
I like the Nugget's chances much better without AI and now with a true PG in Billups. Billups and McDyess are leaders, and that's what the Nuggs really need. As a Suns fans I'm a little more concerned about them now...oh and let's hope McDyess goes back to Pistons because words are that the Spurs are interested in him. He would be a huge upgrade over Oberto at the C/PF position.
For the Pistons, this is a move that gives them one last shot at a ring before they let AI and Wallace go and start rebuilding. I like the move for them, because they get an expiring contract without giving up to much competitiveness this season. Then they can start rebuilding.

The 2005-06 Suns will always have a special place in my heart

Re: OT: Allen Iverson traded for Chauncey Billups/Antonio McDyes
I don't think this move is going to put either team over the top. Both teams get what they need for now.
Pistons will take a step back, but still have their core players outside of Billups. He has not been the same since the year after they won it all. They get one of the best scorers we have seen in nba history. He gives this team a go to scorer, one that this team has not had. Yes, he is not the best defender, but really, there are no amazing PGs out there he has to worry about like he did out west.
2nd, they get huge cap relief and go and get true low post scorer they need, or in a trade with sheed. Stucky is there future at PG. I actually think this is a good move for them.
Denver was looked at as a championship contender when they traded for AI. They have not got to the 2nd rd and have only won one game in the playoffs. Melo is a scorer, and AI and this team did not work out. JR smith was not utilized to his potential due to AI. With Nene, Kmart and melo, they need a guy who can lead this team, and billups is that guy. He is solid on D, can pass and gives them another solid 3 point shooter with JR and Kleza. This makes them better. However, they have guys that make a lot of money and it hurts them in the long run. Melo will be the main scorer again, and puts them back into the playoffs. How far, maybe the 7th seed or 8th, thats it. The west is tough.

What I heard is that McD wants to return back to D-town because he does not want to move his family again.
