Do Over (if you could)

Since the season just started, last night I was watching what the suns could have had in Fernandez. I know some on our board were big on him. I personally was not. However, I was wrong and the dude can flat out play. As of now, I would rather have him over barbosa. Fact is, our FO the past 5 years has made some good moves, and some really, really bad moves on trades, picks and FA signings.

So, if you could do a “Do Over”, how would this team look?

Here is mine.

FA signings
Nash, Bell, Hill and TT (instead of Banks)

Picks
03 – Diaw(instead of zarko), Barbs {(David west could be great here too)}
04 – Iggy instead of trading the #7 pick away.
06 – Rondo
07 – * Fernandez , tucker
08- Lopez

(* kept overseas untill 2009/2010 season)

Trades
I would have never done the JJ trade, would have locked him up instead of signing Q for 55 mil.
I would still do the Shaq trade even though Marion is still one of my all-time favorite suns. I love what he did for this team and respected his game. But the money he wanted, the crying at times I got sick of. I also think Shaq makes our best player better (amare)

I would traded iggy for Battier and get a pick in return. Might not be a good trade, but would give us what we need in shooting and D. also, Sarver could not afford another max player.

Out team this year
2008/2009 season

PG -Nash / Barbs / Rondo
SG - JJ / Bell / *Fernandez
SF - Battier / Hill / Tucker
PF - Amare / TT
C - Shaq / **Diaw / Lopez

** Diaw is not making 9 mil a season either under my do over

Bring your Do Over!

Domination!...do you know whether this team would work under CBA/salary cap? I have a huge exam this evening so i don't have time to compile a do-over but with regards to the 7 pick I would have also been thrilled keeping Deng (and may have been able to keep him as opposed to trading Iggy) who was taken there.

Another side note is I would NOT feel the need to do-over the coaching change, as a matter of fact if I could actually use hindsight I wouldn't have hired Mike D in the first place!

I cant do this.

Makes me too depressed to think what could have been...reality is hard enough, when you substitute fantasy like a draft do over or FA signings it's too annoying.

I was never very high on Zarko from the start and it seems after Danny Fortson knocked him down he just lost all his confidence from then on.
I think the biggest mistake however is not locking up JJ when we could have got him relatively cheap and then again when he asked PHX management not to match the offer sheet.

man that joe j. thing realy makes me mad. he clearly wanted out, so why signing a player who wants out of here. i hated it back in the days, but now i like the move. if you don´t wanna be here get the hell outta here.

and zarko had nice game, he had that soft shot but wasn´t clearly not ready for the nba. mentally soft.

i think we didn´t made too much mistakes, because we´re a contender for the last years. so what did u do wrong when you´re one of the best teams the last couple of years.

Eastside we picked RoLo with the pick from Atlanta in the JJ trade.. I think he was #15?

Granted, we still would have had our pick this year (about #21) that we sent to Seattle in the KT trade so maybe you could sub DeAndre Jordan in there.. mgmt likely would have taken Dragic I assume.

You're right, the key was the JJ trade. Even if we did everything else, we still would be in a pretty darn good spot.

Nash
Bell
JJ
Amare
KT

Trading Q for KT would have probably been enough to avoid the Shaq trade, deal Marion for scraps if we have to, to save cash and keep JJ happy as 2nd option. If we pulled a Camby and ditched Marion's $15+M for a pick (imagine the uproar lol) we probably wouldn't have needed to sell our draft picks. And even though we wouldn't have the ATL picks we'd still have all of our own.

04 Zarko
05 Garcia (instead of taking Nate for the Knicks)
06 I think we took Sergio with our pick?
07 Fernandez
08 Dragic

Nash/Sergio/Dragic (overseas, no buyout)
Bell/ Barbosa/ Fernandez
JJ/ Garcia
Amare/ Zarko
KT (resigned)/ FA or something for Marion

So our payroll with that team would be $57M! Geez. We could even trade Marion for Shaq and still be at about the same point we are now :p

It's funny, the JJ trade led us to extending both Diaw and Barbosa while having money tied up in Nash, Marion, Amare and Q. That led to an inflated payroll which resulted in sold draft picks. The sold draft picks led to a lack of talent to develop, leading to a bevy of knee jerk FA signings (Banks etc). Which meant more guaranteed money tied up in guys we had to sell more picks to get rid of.

.. wait, that's not funny at all. :(

PS I just noticed that 8/11 guys on that roster are internationals.. (if you count Raja as US Virgin Islands like Tim Duncan).

^ Forget that, we still would have taken Nate for the Knicks to make the KT trade. So no Garcia.
