Barbosa Trade Proposal - Earl Watson and future 1st

I know I know, we have Diaw and Barbosa trade proposals all the time. But this one I really like. What do you guys think?

Phx outgoing
Leandro Barbosa $6,100,000 in 08/09 and $6,600,000 in 09/10

OKC outgoing
Earl Watson $6,200,000 in 08/09 $6,600,000 in 09/10 then contract is up
2010 1st round pick (originally ours!!)

The salaries are virtually identical and both teams pick up immediate and future value. OKC gets a quick scoring guard in Barbosa that can play well next to a guy like Russell Westbrook (big point that can guard ones and two's). Plus Barbosa is locked up on a good contract for the next 3 years after this.

On our end, Phx gets the veteran backup point guard ready to contribute right away, allowing Dragic more time in the D league to play big minutes and get his confidence up. Additionally, Watson's contract comes off the books in 09/10 - same time as Shaq, Nash, and Bell. This frees up more money for free agents that year and would be almost 40 million off the books that year. Plus, Watson is saying he wants out of OKC right now anyways according to Hoopshype.

Get on the phones Kerr and Presti!! Thoughts?

Don't think Watson's all that good, and we can get more for Barbosa IMO

Yeah, there are a lot of Barbosa trade rumors, and also a lot of rumors centered around the assumption that PHX would make a move to acquire yet another backup PG. This trade sounds fine, but as I've said elsewhere the Suns made their most concerted effort over the last 5 years to get Dragic and they are not about to send him to the bench for the rest of the season. If anything, we need to trade Barbosa in some package to get a taller, more reliable SG (although I well recognize you can't send an undersized, underperforming SG for a legit one).

I never liked Watson at all..... This trade is awful.

Barbosa at his worse is still a better than Watson at his best.

^ See I see this trade as one just as much for the future as for the present. Doing this trade creates an additional 7 million in cap relief in the big summer of 2010 and potentially nets us a lottery pick that same year. Not too bad, especially since Barbosa appears to be really struggling fitting more of a halfcourt type of offensive set. As others have suggested, I believe we should look at trading him to a faster paced team. Watson can provide us enough for our backup PG position to be solid until Dragic catches up a bit. I agree that Barbosa is much better player than Watson, but sometimes you can have addition by subtraction. Heck, maybe Alando Tucker can be our bench sparkplug when he comes back.
