Steve Kerr (Phoenix, AZ): Last week you said you were not in awe of my team. Has our 3-1 trip with Shaq looking like it is 1999 changed your mind as of yet?

John Hollinger: (1:37 PM ET ) Shaq has indeed looked mighty impressive so far, and Amare's game against Indy was other-worldly. I still think they're the 5 seed out West when it's all said and done, but let's not write the Suns' obit just yet.

John Hollinger: (1:37 PM ET ) And Dragic has the worst PER of any player with at least 100 minutes. So if they ever get around to replacing him, that will improve the team too.

He also has an atrocious plus/minus. I understand he's young, and I know that we need to give him time to develop, but at this point, he's hurting this team more than he's helping. We NEED another point guard so we can send Goran down to the D-League where he can grow(a la Tucker), because right now, the man's simply not able to contribute. We're actually giving up leads when this guy comes in. I like him a lot, and I think he can be a decent backup point one day, but we can't afford to wait for him to become competent with the playoff race in the West being what it is. He can only use one hand, he can't shoot, he can't finish, and he can't handle the ball when he's being pressured.

So what do we do? I think we need to find/trade for another PG immediately(a pick for Sergio Rodriguez, Sebastian Telfair or maybe Marcus Williams would be nice), and we need to give Singletary some time, because he's impressed me in his limited minutes. There are also some vets in FA that we can look at: Damon Stoudamire(old and maybe useless), Darrell Armstrong(old but somehow productive), Lindsey Hunter(ancient), and dare I say it, Smush Parker(pathetic but flashes of competence), even though I hate the guy.

Another option is to sign another 2/3: Bonzi Wells is on top of my list, along with Fred Jones, Darius Miles, Patrick Ewing Jr., Mickael Gelabale, Ruben Patterson, Salim Stoudamire, Malik Hairston(our draftee!), Darrick Byars(prospect), hell even Penny Hardaway, I don't care, etc, and let Barbosa/Hill run the offense off the bench.

Finally, another option is to have Diaw play backup PG, and sign another big: PJ Brown(if he's not retired), Juwan Howard, Alonzo Mourning(hopefully Shaq can lure him here), Dikembe(long shot), Michael Doleac, JAKE VOSHKUL(how I missed his foul-prone angry-face ways), Scot Pollard(I like him), Danny Fortson(he's nasty, he's dirty, but he can sure rebound the hell out of the ball), the Kandi Man(so Amare has someone to dunk on in practice), etc.

At this point, Marcus Banks and DJ Strawberry would have been better choices in terms of backups in a half-court offense, but Banks is expensive as hell and somewhat useless, and DJ's in Europe now.

Any ideas/thoughts?

well there is a reason why hollinger is NOT a Gm. He is a rookie and not only that he comes from another country. there is a language barrier as well as a different type of game barrier. Give him time. He has the instincts. He just need more seasoning.

Trading Dragic is a horrible Idea!.

I don't think we should trade him at all, and I'm not a big Hollinger fan, but I'm just going off what I've seen: when Dragic comes in, the lead vanishes, when he sits down, we do better. He needs to grow, but I don't know if we can afford his mistakes.

Make a trade to somehow acquire Jason Terry.

I'd do that trade in a heartbeat.

I don't think we need to trade Dragic but letting him play in the D league will give him more minutes and experience.
Sean Singletary is more ready to play at the moment, I would have him as the second pg off the bench.

I wouldn't trade Dragic either, nor will we even if he is the worst player in the league because we've invested so much into him. I'd like Dragic to play in the D-League, he'll get used to the game in general better because right now, I think it's just the transition that he needs to make to be a better PG, he definitely has got what you need to be a solid PG.

Singletary is more ready for the game right now, but he's more of a scorer than a point.

But I would definitely do the trade Phungk drew up. Highly doubt Dallas would do it though.

What ??? Replace Dragic ??? Not Kerr'veball's wonder boy. They can't trade him.... and they have too much money tied up to send him D-league-ing with only Singletary as the lone back up. That would be admission of draftday failure, a step back to the 'who do we have to rest Nash' riddle, and further strain on the almighty budget.

I am not certain, but I would wager that Dragic is the highest paid 50+ something pick ever. (and we had to pay our nemesis as well) Not saying he was a bad selection... but it was crazy the way Kerr'veball and co sprung wood for everyone to see. I suppose they had to hump the hype to justify the pricey buy out and hosey trade terms. Just as likely their googoogaga routine was done to assure RSarver and to loosen his wallet grip . RSarver knows a bad investment when he sees one....trouble is he sees them mostly in his rearview mirror.

Let the kid play his 10-12 mins for now....... if anything he may change the way Phnx approaches their draft evaluation as Tragic Dragic lays an egg on Kerr'veball's face.

c'mon guys... he's a ROOKIE. yes he was hail as nash heir apparent. i've told you before, this is a 2-3 year long project. 7 games into the season, you just cant judge the guy.

porter said the second team is competing in the practice... its all about playing in the real game and adjusting to it. although i will admit that dragic is sucking right now.

I think everyone being rough on the kid need to look at Ginobili's first month/year in the NBA - he was older than Dragic also - 25yrs old AND more experienced. Adjustment is the key word.

We're expecting him to be a 8 and 5 backup straight away but it simply isn't going to happen. Yes, they overspent, and no they shouldn't have to rely on him as the sole backup at PG. Look at Barbosa - that guy has regressed if anything and his development as a ball handler and decision maker is (Please Use More Appropriate Word) at best.

Yeah yeah yeah ... he's a rookie.... but the shame is the oversell job Kerr'veball did on us and Sarver. To claim he would be the immediate back up PG was a pinocchio manuever. Our fanbase is so hungry for this 3 yr dilemma to be solved that we'll hook line and sinker what ever is said.




What a bunglish state of affairs this pg quest has been.... oh what could have been ???? I think at best, for this yr, we will have to rely more upon Hill and Diaw to do the dishin...and if done more effectively, I am OK with that. I haven't watched many games so what do you think the best line up is for our Nash-less moments ? And further more, is Nash still doing the same gayass two breaks a game substitution routine ? Maybe he should sit more times, but for shorter minutes so to briefen these offensive droughts.

PHX needs to go on a hunt for a non rookie backup pg, Dragic scares me when he comes in the game. He almost always tries to do layups and gets blocked or he makes bad decisions passing and turns it over.

I've always thought Telfair would look good on your team. He's super-fast and makes good decisions getting the ball inside, but he's not a big scorer .. though you wouldn't need it out of him.

In fact, MIN has several players that I think would work well in PHO, with Rodney Carney (Nash playing off his athleticism), McCants and Ryan Gomes. A guy like Dragic fits a rebuilding team like the 2-8 Wolves better than the championship caliber Suns. I think you should go for it all, and start the rebuild only after Shaq and Nash are gone. Gradualism, where you try to develop while you also try to win, will put you in the middle, which is the worst place to be .. little success and no lottery picks.
