Is it time to trade Steve Nash?

Post#1 » by MaryvalesFinest » Thu Nov 13, 2008 6:42 am

Tonight he averaged 10-5-3 which is still pretty solid but it seems like Nash has trouble playing in Porter's system, I'm not defending Porter but it seems like Nash keeps making excuses like, "We need to speed it up" or "we have to do this instead of that".

I wonder if Suns management notices that, I mean Nash has been a great part of the Suns organization and community but on the other hand Porter just signed a new contract and knowing Sarver it would be easier to trade a player than fire a coach. Who know's he's 34 going on 35 maybe it's just decline but what are everyones thoughts on this? Do you guys think the Suns should trade Nash for some younger talent, draft picks, etc? What does everyone think about Nash in Porter's system?

I don't think we should trade him, and if we were to trade him with the perception being that he can't function in half court sets, then that would severely limit the amount of teams that would want him(only run and gun teams would), which would then limit our options in terms of return value.

Nash and Porter will find their balance....I just don't know if it will happen soon enough.

trade him & bell for cp3....
than trade ghill, diaw and barbosa fpr kobe or lebron and we´re done...

why in hell should we trade nash just after 10 games. give the whole time some more time. we´re just adapting to what porter teaches us...

don´t fool around.

Props to the great one

I don't think you can trade him for anyone of value right now. Plus his contract ends in a couple seasons so it would be prudent to just let it expire.
I agree he is looking pretty bad out there and that could be a combination of age and adapting to a new system, but I would give him a few more games to see how it goes.

By the way we need to find a way to get Sean Singletary about 10 minutes a game. I don't know why Porter doesn't play him.

Nash/LB for Billups/Smith should be a win-win trade. Nash'd be perfect for dynamic players like Melo/Kmart, and their bigman Nene is certainly mobile and able to cover Nash's def. weakness.

Wow....who'd have thought there would be Suns fans willing to move Nash before Shaq...

Shaq can still put bums on seats and generate $$$...Just have to find a taker

i would only trade him if it became totally apparant we wont win with this team and could get a young PG of the future as in calderon or someone which wont happen

nash is a ledgend and deserves our support!

I would like to see Steve "Turnover Machine" Nash moved. The guy has given us great years but his turnovers and lousy D have been killing us. Go look at opposing point guards stats this season.

i do like that nash for billups trade. i'd do it. why not. we get a better defender who can run a halfcourt offense as well as the break. and smith i think is a better option at the 2 than barbosa.

reunite him w/ D'Ant for his own good...or may be BC in Toronto..... either way, Nash would OK the deal and we would need a starting caliber PG back. Suddenly, it is our weakest position. And next yr is a team option for Nash... if he continues this level of play and frustration, he will be sqawkin for a release.

BTW Shaq + Nash for Marblurry + Curry works. And I think it drops us below or at the Lux Tax...which is exactly why it could happen with no surprise from me. (in fact , our front orfice can no longer surprise me) This also frees up a huge chunk o change next yr, to once again address the need for a pg. yawn

A few more games like Chi and Hou and you have to ask yourself...can we be any worse ???

I echo that hootierules. Yeah, nash is not an amazing Defender. But he still is one of the best. Those who think we should trade him are just dumb basketball fans who get all caught up in one game. Porter and nash need to find there groves. Players need to respect and listen to porter. However, porter needs to realize his players strengths and weaknesses and adjust his system accordingly.

Nash needs to retire as a Sun. It's the MINUMUM we can do for a player who gave eveything for this team in the last 4 years and led this team to great succes. And let's not forget, if Robert Fu****g Horry hadn't pushed him to the floor in that damn game 4 2 years ago he might have led us to a ring.

So, please, stop even thinking about trading him cause it just makes me sick. It's disrespectful to the player and it just doesn't make any sense (do u think Amare would be as good as he is now without Nash?).

If things did go downhill further there may be some interesting Portland scenarios out there in Portland, we need to consolidate for sure (or risk guys walking for nothing) and could clear more salary cap room for you guys maybe. I threw out this one (in a long thread) and would love to get some of your feedback:

http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=851937&p=17687105#p17687105

(all expiring deals or team options)
Bayless, Frye, Outlaw, Blake, Lafrentz (only have to pay 1/2 of sticker price because of insurance)
for
Nash, Diaw, Hill

post (or tell me its terrible) on our board please

Nash isn't worth Rudy + Webster.

But I did propose two very fair trades for Nash a while back in this forums that Suns fans generally agreed were fair, they just weren't interested in trading Nash at the time.

EDIT: And before anyone gets too excited abotu shamelessblazer's trade prop, KP would NOT trade both Blake and Bayless for a veteran PG... Blake and Sergio or Bayless and Sergio, but not Blake and Bayless.

Excited? That's terrible value for Phoenix. Bayless has done nothing in this league. Outlaw's a bench player. Frye's a bench player. Blake's a mediocre PG.

That doesn't get you Steve Nash, Boris Diaw AND Grant Hill
