What Would You Want For Nash?

Post#1 » by JordanL » Mon Nov 17, 2008 10:52 pm

So, I ran a thread a while back where I proposed a scenario where Portland offered either capspace or young talent for Steve Nash later this season, and got a mixed response.

I don't want to glut your guys' forum up with "TRADE NASH" threads, but I wanted to get a different perspective.

Let's suppose for a second Nash is being traded. It's a hypothetical, so let's ignore how likely or unlikely it is. Let's also assume Portland is very motivated.

The Suns get to name their price... what would you ask Portland for in exchange for Steve Nash that you think Portland might accept assuming they're motivated? What would you want from Portland for Nash in any package if you were designing the trade?

(NOTE: For bonus points, you can take a page out of Portland's book and ask for the sort of throw ins that don't seem like a big deal at the time to the team giving it up, like rights to Petteri Koponen or Joel Freeland... I don't think Pritchard is immune to the slight shortsightedness that can occur there.)

Hmm how about Lafrentz's 11-12M expiring, Jerryd Bayless, Sergio Rodriguez and a 2010 first?

Or Lafrentz's expiring, Sergio Rodriguez and a 2009 and 2011 first?

I think Portland wouldn't think twice before pulling the trigger on the second trade. You guys could very well draft two Rudy's with our picks, but even if we drafted two more Rudy's we wouldn't be able to use them.

ok, honestly. I think he is part of the big three on our team, I would have to say we would have to get one of your big 3's in return. I know, most will say nash is on the downside of his career and the portland youngs are on the way up. but most likely that would not happen. So, I would want roy in return, but wont happen.

I like some of the youngs, but I don't know why the suns would trade nash to portland for some bench players who have potential.

Portland has two SGs better than Barbosa, and two SFs better than Barnes. And that's right now.

I don't think you'd be getting nothing but bench players back.

But I would expect that some fans would want Roy. I'd expect most fans would want Roy.

Rudy has to be in the deal, no matter what deal it is.

Yeah, there's no way that POR gives up Roy for Nash...KP would be fired if that went down.

Well I started the thread to see what Suns fans would try to get. Portland and Phoenix both obviously have no impending need to make this sort of move, I was just curious how high the price would start for most. What their ideal package would be.

Well if Nash were to be traded, it would only be because we were giving up on this season.

If that was the case, then we'd probably look to acquire either one star (not happening) or a couple solid complementary players to build around Amare for next season.

So maybe something like Nash, Bell and Tucker for Fernandez, Webster, Blake and Raef?

Barbosa, Fernandez and Webster would be a pretty nice wing rotation once Hill and Bell are done.

I dont see Portland running for Nash for two reasons (1) Nash is an uptempo point guard and Portland is running one of the slowest halfcourt offense in the league and; (2) Portland is too young to win it all next year and the following year which is essentially the extension of Nash's prime year and start of his decline.

Wonder if Nellie would take Nash + Diaw for Ellis + Harrington....? And add filler/exchange pieces...
I'd love Azubuike here as Bell's replacement...

Can't believe I'm thinking about what we could get for NASH...

I just hit myself, feel better now.

*Tucker, Diaw, Nash

for

Ellis, Al, Azubuike, MWilliams

....works...

^ I like that Tastic except that I doubt if Harrington will entertain the idea of playing behind Amare.

I still think Blake, Raef, Bayless, Outlaw, and Frye for Nash and Diaw makes a lot of sense. You guys get a bunch of half-court players that compliment good big guys and add scoring to your backcourt, get young talent, all of it expires soon so you can save TONS of money, and two of em are hometown kids.

WAS wouldn't do it... :(

Nash, Diaw, Tucker

for

Butler, Daniels, EThomas

I like Butler, very underrated and a good playmaker from the 3

Daniels/Hill/Dragic
Bell/Barbosa
Butler/Barnes
Amare/Thomas
Shaq/Lopez

I still say there's no way Portland trades Blake and Bayless to get Nash.
