in exchange for Steve Nash...

So, this isn't me thinking that Nash will be moved imminently or anything like that so no need to lecture. And if you're in the firm "don't move him" camp I understand, but this thread is simply not for you.

The general observation I have is that Nash isn't being used to his full potential in the current system, and that Shaq is getting his way (with Kerr and Porter). Nash becomes a very good PG still, but he seems very frustrated with the offense, and Shaq looks as if he could really use some cutters and half-court scorers there with him. Your team seems mixed in build (not that versatility is bad) but Porter seems to be wasting talent as he's not especially creative.

So from the hypothetical presupposition that Nash is to be moved, what would be the type of things you guys would want in a 'fair' return for him?

We know the suns are cap conscious and probably wouldn't want long-term salary, and that salary going out would probably be a bonus. So my questions are as follows:

1. Who/what type of player would make sense to come back for Nash (assuming your going 1/2 court)

suggestions:
Vince Carter - been playing tremendous ball the last couple of seasons, still an elite level 1/2 court scorer, Shaq is on record as wanting to play with him (thinking he can get him to the next level).

2. Who makes sense going away with Nash? Who would be best to get rid of (if Nash is gone)?

Essentially who is the worst in a half court game compared to full court, or contractual reasons...

suggestions:
Raja Bell - in theory should be good in 1/2 court but can't create own shot and doesn't cut w/o ball
Barbosa - just seems to thrive in the open court, 3 years 20 million (who wants him bad though, Memphis maybe next to mayo?)
Diaw - been playing well so far, but four years left (at 9 mill per) is an automatic qualifier

I'm not really big on making any trades as of yet. We are only less than a month into the season with a 10-5 record under a NEW coach with a NEW system. Give it sometime before the sky starts falling and we blow it up. Protwesting trades at this point

Nash does not need to be traded, and he won't be unless we're getting Rose back. Seriously, we need to stop this bull **** about "TRADE NASH" because we're only 13 games into the season, and there were a lot of big changes. I don't care what anyone say's, we didn't adjust to Shaq last year, and we haven't adjusted to Porter. If anyone needs to go, its Barbosa / Diaw, and most of all, Porter. I'd much rather have a fricking Avery Johnson than Terry Porter. This guy is epic fail right now, his offensive sets are horrendous, and the defensive scheme doesn't seem to be working. The only thing I like is he has the guys fired up, and that he can actually use a zone defense. Now, if you are so interested in thinking of trades, let's all talk about trading Barbosa and Diaw. Diaw looks like he's grown a pair, but in Phoenix, he will never play up to the level of that contract.

Since Memphis IS looking to trade Crittenton and Warrick, something to this effect may work. Helps us get an actual backup PG with size who can defend, and we can send Dragic to the D-League so he can get some experience, and an energy PF to back up STAT. Milicic is also not a bad addition for front court depth, and we save about $5million, so we could actually use some of our MLE and sign a shooting gaurd (Bonzi Wells?) to back up Bell.

Imagine,

Nash/Crittenton/Singletary
Bell/Wells/Crittenton
Barnes/Hill
Stat/Warrick/milicic
Shaq/Lopez/Milicic

BUT, personally, one i prefer, is this. (LET THE FLAMING BEGIN :D)

I'd throw in Singletary and get a first round pick off them too though.

Nash/Tinsley
Bell/Daniels
Barnes/Hill/Daniels
Stat/Foster/Amundson
Shaq/Lopez/Foster

Carter is just that dynamic scorer that we need.

He can score from literally anywhere on the court, and when he is on, he is among the best in the league at taking over games/hitting the big shots to win games.

If an offer was on the table for him for anyone our team other than Shaq/STAT and potentially Nash, I would so pull the trigger on that trade, almost in an instant.

Abaddon, what would you think about something like this?:

POR Out: Blake, Bayless, Outlaw, Raef
POR In: Nash

NJ Out: Carter
NJ In: RLEC (paid by insurance), Bayless, Outlaw, Raja

PHO In: Carter, Blake
PHO Out: Nash, Raja

From a POR trade point of view, we're going to want Rudy+Sergio+Outlaw or Webster if Nash goes away...
The guy is a model citizen and his weakness on D would be hidden surrounded by better the better athletes/system in POR I think...

Sergio would not look good in Phoenix at all. He's Nash w/o a jump shot (not at the same level but style wise). The thing Nash is contributing for you guys, (being handicapped in half-court w/o motion) is the jumper. Blake would fit much better in an iso system because he is good shooter and plays better D than Nash. For what you guys are running Blake MAY be almost a better fit than Nash.

Rudy looks good anywhere but I seriously doubt Portland would trade him after all we went through to get him here.

Webster is a good shooter that fits us better than Outlaw IMO, BUT I still think you guys need scorers much more (especially if you got Blake back especially) to surround Shaq with in a half-court system.

Bayless will be a very good scorer (Penny or Wade LITE) but definitely a 15ppg guy with time, he's aggressive and competitive as hell, and he's from down there so I think he makes sense to put next to lacksadasical Amare as far as a future to build on.

I'm just saying I don't think Rudy's going anywhere and Sergio wouldn't fit you guys. This deal makes the most sense:

Blake/Bayless/Outlaw/pick?

though I'm not sure PHX has given up yet on the Nash-Shaq-Porter connection. I still think Kerr wants to make another big legacy move and bring in another one of "his" superstars. The net fans love VC right now and he's playing incredible (along with Harris) but they're still not selling seats in NJ, I look for the nets to move him while his value is high (at the trade deadline). This still makes sense to me: (and the nets (Thorn) have supposedly been very high on Outlaw before):

POR out: Raef, Blake, Outlaw, Bayless, pick
POR in: Nash, Simmons (whom we buy out)
(makes us a title contendor IMO)

PHX out: Nash, Bell
PHX in: VC, Blake, Bayless
(makes you a title contendor IMO)

NJ in: Raef, Outlaw, Bell, pick
NJ out: VC, Simmons
(saves them a load of dough and gets Outlaw (young talent) along with driving up their draft pick)

AMEN. This is not the time to be talking trades, especially Nash. And I cannot see Kerr doing that under any circumstances at all during this season (unless Rose was coming back). Other players would go long before Nash was considered, I think that's just how Management would look at it.
