Who would take that trade now?
I've made it quite clear that I find Amare to be an overrated talent. He lacks "upstairs" what all of the great ones possessed. Even though I despise Garnett's trash talking, I still would have been delighted had we shipped Amare out of here for him.

In the past, no. Now? I still don't mind if we did this trade RIGHT NOW, THIS DAY, if they throw in Rondo
Then we can completely retool this team (Nash/Barbs/Diaw for Jrich & Gerald Wallace & May?) and become contenders right away.
To think about it, if we did those 2 trades, got some picks, and what not, we'd be left with..
Rondo/Singletary/Hill
JRich/Bell/Hill
Gerald/Barnes/Hill
Garnett/May/Amundson
Shaq/Lopez/Amundson

Of course in retrospect you HAVE to make that trade.

I think more importantly what would have happened had Marion accepted the deal - BOS would have still looked mighty good and one can only wonder how KG's intensity and team attitude might have rubbed off on Amare...
Ah well

Nash
Bell
Hill
Amare
Garnett
WTF.
Trade KT+2 firsts for Pau Gasol(better deal than what LA gave), and play a super huge/skilled lineup:
Nash
Bell
Amare
Gasol
Garnett

Re: Amare for KG revisited
I was one of the only guys in here that said I woulda done it at the time the Amare/KG rumors poped up.
I liked Amare and still do, but Garnett proved how successful he can be when surrounded by legit talent by being the best player on a 60+ reg season win team and championship team, making the allnba 1st team, and most importanly (from our perspective) by winning the DPOY.
Pre-Shaq trade our only major weaknesses were rebounding and post defense, and KG is 1 of the best rebounders and post-defenders in the NBA.
KG defending Duncan and Marion on Tony Parker >>>>>>>> Shaq on TD and Nash on Parker.
That said, I don't think we coulda landed him unless we made a massive push for him as soon as the 2007 offseason kicked off. McHale seemed pretty intent on helping out his old team by reportedly refusing better packages for KG then the Celtics put up, and there were rumors that KG didn't wanna go to the Suns unless we kept Amare...

That's part of the game...everybody from Payton to Jordan. Watch Michael Jordan Air Time and Playground. He actually talks about that part of the game. All the greats were also big trash talkers, even in the High School ranks. Gotta get in your opponents head a lil bit

Re: Amare for KG revisited
I've been thinking about this recently too. If the unselfish KG is brought in, I think the Marion for Shaq deal never happens, as he would be happy with Garnett's dishes. KG didn't really get a chance to run much with the hapless Wolves, but he can finish breaks, and he had pretty surprising handles when he was younger playing SF -- its just that MIN always needed him down in the post. KG's a very good post defender, but a great help defender, which would have been fun to see as well.
I agree, at the time of the trade, it was probably impossible for the Suns to put Amare in a deal, but I think it could have meant a ring last year. Pierce doesn't get enough credit for his basketball poise, but Nash + Marion >> Pierce + Ray Allen, and I'd say the rest of the Suns team is stronger as well.

Better yet, let's just deal Barnes/Tucker/Amundsen for LeBron.

Maybe you guys can buy Rondo for the same price that you sold him for on draft night two years ago!
