Interesting Amare trade idea...

I was on the ESPN trade machine testing different trade ideas but this seemed like the best one (between the Suns and Grizzlies) because not only do the Suns get a ton of talent back, they would save money because the Grizz can take back salary, let me break it down now.

Phoenix outgoing: Amare Stoudemire, Alando Tucker

Phoenix incomming: OJ Mayo, Javaris Crittenton, Hakim Warick, Darrel Arthur

Memphis: OJ Mayo, Javaris Crittenton, Hakim Warick, Darrel Arthur

Memphis incomming: Amare Stoudemire, Alando Tucker

Now this trade would be good for many reasons...

-The Suns are going to be over the luxury tax after this season and we all know how much Suns ownership likes that, with this trade the Suns would lose 8 million in salary and also get under the luxury tax.

-Marc Iavaroni was a mentor to Amare when he was in Phoenix and worked with him all the time, Amare always used to speak highly of him.

-Amare was going to attend college in Memphis before he declared for the NBA draft back in 2002.

Now the question is why these players, one by one breakdown

Why the Grizz should do it: Amare would basically be "the man" like he wants and he has a good relationship with Iavaroni. Tucker being traded along with him is basically just taking off some extra salary, Memphis was rumoured to want Tucker last season and it appears he doesn't really have a future with the Suns so he could try his luck there. WIth Amare to the Grizz they have a good chance of making the playoffs.

Most likely lineup for the Grizz

C-Marc Gasol
PF-Amare Stoudemire
SF-Rudy Gay
SG-Kyle Lowry
PG-Mike Conley

Why the Suns should do it: Amare wants to be the man but it most likely wont happen with the Suns, giving up Amare for those pieces named above would give the Suns some players for the future and they can still compete now with them. OJ Mayo is going to be a star and with Nash getting older/retiring the Suns would need someone that can handel the ball, Mayo is a SG not a PG but that doesn't mean he can be the one with it in his hands while the Suns have someone like Dragic or Singletary playing the point. Now with that brought up getting Javaris Crittenton would also give the Suns another pg to experiment with, he may or may not turn out to be better than Singletary or Dragic but if he doesn't do good at point the Suns could use him as a scorer, either way though he's a project and just a throw in from the deal since the Grizz arnt' that high on him. The next piece's are PF's Darrel Arthur and Hakim Warick. Warick can take Amare's place at the PF spot, he's not as offenseively gifted but he's an average or above defender that can help the Suns and Arthur is a project that has a chance to be in the Suns future someday.

Most likely depth chart for the Suns

C-Shaq/Lopez
PF-Warick/Diaw/Arthur
SF-Hill/Barnes/Bell
SG-Mayo/Barbosa/Bell
PG-Nash/Dragic/Singletary/Crittenton

So what do you guys think of that Amare trade? Would you add anything or do you think the Grizz are being to generous with that trade?

I like it, Mayo could replace most of Amar'e's scoring, Warrick would be a solid forward along with Arthur and Crittenton might turn out solid down the road. Not to mention the Suns will also have an extra $8,000,000 to spend on the 2010 free agency, that could make the difference of a big signing.

Sign me up for it

Too good to be true? In that case maybe the Suns could take back a bad contract like Jaric or Walker to make it work?

i gotta say i would rather have gasol than warick and arthur. but crittenton could come in and back up nash and oj mayo could take over bells starting spot.

if you make that change, you might get some MEM fans to listen (maybe one or two of the ten of us that are left ;)).

We've gotta either keep Warrick or Arthur, though-can't have Amare as the *only* 4. Shimmy doesn't count.

And by the way, Darko can't play 4. He's backup center to Gasol 2.0 (who, by the way, we all like MUCH better than we liked his big sister Paula).

Honestly how often do you see a team trade away a ROY candidate?

Mayo plays both sides of the ball and is under rookie contract for 3 years, there's no chance they risk Amare bolting after a year and a bit

As an SU fan, I'll approve almost any trade that puts Hakim Warrick (my ultimate man-crush) in a Suns uniform. Possibly the greatest moment in my life was his block in the national championship game in 2003. Of course, he'd have blown up under D'Antoni, and Porter probably wouldn't really know how to use him.
