PHOENIX Raja Bell and Boris Diaw have left Phoenix, and Steve Nash says their departure leaves him "emotionally drained."

The Suns pulled off an unexpected five-player trade Wednesday that sent Diaw and Bell to the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for high-scoring guard Jason Richardson.

The trading of Bell especially bothered Nash.

"All I can say is that he's my best buddy and my best friend," Nash said after the short-handed Suns lost to the Lakers. "The guys loved him, and Boris, too. It's hard you know. I have a hard time committing to this as a business. I take this personally."

Nash already was having a tough time dealing with the changes brought on by the departure of coach Mike D'Antoni and the arrival of Terry Porter and his more deliberate style of play.

"I take my career home with me and I care about my teammates," Nash said. "When you lose two of your best friends on the team, it's hard. We're not only recreating chemistry, we're changing our style. But we've got lots of time to build."

It's expected, but in the end, as hard as it is for fans and players, at it's core, the NBA is still a business not a place to make friends.

That's what makes Nash so special among players in this league that's all about business and super star. I remember Raja said he would still keep touch with him after he left Dallas and said that no one in the NBA would do that. Nash is just being Nash. He was upset that a good friend of his got traded. He didn't complain. He didn't open his yap. He was just upset. Its understandable, as Nash said Raja was his best friend.

It's becoming more an more possible Nash leaves as FA.

We depend way too much on our best player, so I hope he recovers after this hit soon.

We need him to be the featured guy again!

In the long run I think Steve Nash will see that this trade was good for him and the team. Richardson could run the court and finish at the hope like Marion could do without the ugly looking shoot. I actually think Jared Dudley is going to play a big part on the team. I live in Boston so I got to see and play with Jared Dudley. The kid can play basketball and I his style of play really fits what the Sun is trying to do. Trust me Steve Nash is going to like playing with that kid.

he did look "sad" vs the lakers. It sucks too see a "brother" go some where else. But this trade is a steal so hopefully it works out for Nash and for PHX.

--- So much of sports is diplomatic mouthings that mean nothing; I like hearing a guy tell the truth. he didn't knock the FO, he just said it was tough to lose a close friend.
And I think the majority of us hope they're not planning on blowing the team up, too.

I'm sad too, Steve. I'm sad too.

All the fools bashing Nash for "whining" or being "unprofessional" on azcentral anger me immensely.

Well, I understand his sentiment, but come on nash. Don't cry about it. I know it sucks, but this is a business and hopefully he sees how this is going to help him.

Your always going to be best friends, but he has to make it work with this team, and these players. If he is a leader, this whole team needs to become friends and close. But I don’t see that happing.

He didn't cry. He didn't complain. He had never trash the FO for some of the BS they had done. He is just upset that his best friend is gone in a trade. Again its understandable, as Nash said Raja was his best friend and he is just being honest about his feeling to this move. He's the consummate professional he'll deal with it and move on. But you can't deny that losing Raja in the locker room is a emotional loss for the players as well, not just for most of us (LB and Raja are close too). Players feeds off his teammates and chemistry and If they're not feeling it with the guys on the court or in the locker room, their game could suffer. I'm not going to say this is going to be a problem long term or short term, but it's something should be concerned about at least. We'll see.

"I have a hard time committing to this as a business."

Does he mean he has a hard time committing to the Suns now? If so, this is blatantly inappropriate. I could also however see him just saying its hard to see it as a business when you are such close friends.

On the other hand I obviously feel for him, he seemed upset last night as did Hill actually.

No, he means that he's not one who separates his professional life and his personal life. Right now, his personal life took a huge hit; thus, "hard time committing to this as a business". He wears his emotions on his sleeve.
