Anyone else think Shaq and Amare might become a big problem

Post#1 » by SunsWinSunsWin » Sun Dec 14, 2008 2:30 am

With acquiring J-Rich it is likely he will be taking at least 15 shots a game. Obviously, Shaq and Amare would rather have those attempts instead. If the team starts winning consistently then I don't see it as a big problem until contract talks come up again with Amare, but if the team is average I wouldn't be surprised if a "I need more touches" type of comment comes out and begins to severely damage this team!

Let's hope I am completely off base!

I could also see something like "J-Rich gets more oop/dunks then me" from Amare. Hopefully that doesn't happen, but its something that I can see Amare doing because he is egotistical like that. Shaq shouldn't have a problem with J-Rich putting up more shots.

Well I am also worried about Shaq.

During a post game interview after he scored 35 points, Shaq said something along the lines of "When I get touches/the ball, this is what I can do."

Let us hope the team focuses on winning and having fun instead of stats, egos, and contracts.

I'm more worried about Amare and J-Rich than Amare and Shaq. J-Rich is coming in for basically one purpose only and that's to take shots whereas Shaq was brought in for rebounding, defense and as a defensive/offensive anchor.

I remember when Shaq was traded here he said he didn't care how many touches he had, I think that was because everyone was scoring but earlier this year the Suns were in a slump but now with J-Rich here Shaq should know J-Rich needs his shots.

Wouldn't J-Rich coming off the bench, like he did yesterday, solve this problem?

Having both Barbosa and J-Rich on the bench would be a bad idea. I think Jason will start next game.

I pray that this doesn't happen. But I am with a preivious post, stating that if we are winning and looking like a contender than I don't see this being a problem

If the Suns are winning it won't become a huge problem, if they are losing then yes any kind of lockerroom dissention is possible.

Shaq will have nothing to do with this, his production will flourish with another scorer here because he can a) get more assists b) more put backs since we have a legit scorer on the wing c) get easier looks because teams will have a harder time double teaming

I also don't see J-Rich being a 15shots per game type of guy anymore, more like 11-12, maybe even 10, but more FT's attempted for sure. He even admitted he's not going to try to score as much, which helps (even if it doesn't happen, he's trying to SHOW that he's not trying to take over the team as his own).

Shaq could careless as long as we are scoring.

Amar'e will get plenty of touches along with JRich.

No problem.

Have you ever watched Jrich ? He is not the kind of guy who attacks the rim and earns his FTs .. He is a shooter and (or was) a dunker.

True, very true; a lot of people have this misconception of him as some dude who can create his own shot off the dribble drive.

I'm not worried about Shaq. He's mature enough to understand the way things work. Amare on the other hand...

I've been feeling exactly the same of both. For Amare... low intelligence and extremely high self-esteem is never a good combo, I guess

Unless things go extreme good with the wins/losses Amare's ego will eventually "F" up an otherwise great line-up that can contend if the commitment is there.

Trade him, but only star for star. No multiple player/ draft pick b---sh-t.

I'll raise the flag again on my want for a doable Stoudemire/Barbosa for Toronto's Bosh & Parker trade again. Though, I will say, I really like what I've seen with Leandro in the last couple games! Dude seems to have found some testosterone...he seems to have a sharper/more forceful edge to his game. Still, I can't see him filling up that hole in defense that opened up with the departure of Bell. That's why I'm looking at Parker and my Bosh/Parker trade want.

*Remove the potential Amare Cancer
*Fill (at least some of the) D needed for a title contending team.
