OT: NBATV, Suns/Knicks Triple OT game Jan 2 06

Post#1 » by rsavaj » Mon Dec 15, 2008 8:00 pm

They're showing the Suns@Knicks triple OT game from the 05/06 season( http://www.nba.com/games/20060102/PHXNYK/boxscore.html ) . Major blast from the past, and watching it I just had some observations:

-that 05/06 team literally featured one guy maximum in the paint...Nash could go wherever the hell he wanted
-Nash has lost a step or two since that year...he was making some ridiculously acrobatic finishes, causing Clyde to yell "STEVE NASH WILL NOT BE DENIED!"
-Eddie House was pretty good for us that year! He could hit his open shots, and actually wasn't terrible as a point guard.
-really, that wide open lane and spacing made for some incredibly efficient offense; we were down by 13 at one point, but late in the fourth with like 40 seconds left I think crawford misses a shot, Nash, House and Marion start running the break w/o calling a timeout. Nash gets in the lane b/c nobody's clogging it up, throws it up, and Marion slams home the lob. thrilling stuff...it was marion's second alley oop of the quarter that I saw. Marion was such a beast.
-Boris Diaw was a lot skinnier back then, but his court vision doesn't seem like it's changed
-Kurt Thomas was great for us. Played tough D, rebounded, threw OUTLET PASSES(i forgot he did that), and flopped, which is okay if you're on my team
-James Jones really was useless that year...weird how he exploded once he went to Portland
-Pat Burke was a good rebounder, but dude kept getting rookie calls
-the thing that majorly stuck out was the FT disparity. Even Clyde and Mike Breen were like, "weird, that's only Phoenix's 2nd trip to the line this quarter." Raja and Boris fouled out in the fourth on some BS calls, and guess who called those fouls?

I know, right? I'm not implying that the game was rigged....actually, yes, yes I am. The final free throw disparity was 16 free throws attempted for Phoenix, 54 attempted for New York! 54 to 16! That's not in any way "normal"

Anyways yeah, just felt like posting since I got all excited/nostalgic that the 05/06 Suns were on. Let's hope tonight's game ends with a different team winning.

Yeah that was a crazy game...I can't even think about the thrilling squad we had "back in those days". And Burke, 13 mins 6 fouls ftw.

Yeah, Nash was a pretty good slasher back then... used to love that weird ass strained face look he'd put up when he'd cut to the bucket, lol

"I can say with a large degree of certainty that this game was one of the more blatant fixes. That Phoenix vs. New York game was a game that I was told was bet by the crew associated with [alleged Donaghy co-conspirator James "Baa Baa"] Batista, it was also a game where Phoenix shot 14 free throws in regulation and New York shot 36."

Two things I remember from that game:
1. That Nash to Marion alley oop which looked like we were going to win the game (either at the end of regulation or 1st OT, I think)

2. Us getting hosed by the refs.

Wow.. I can specifically remember watching that game and just having a seizure cause I was so mad at the refs and the disparity of fairness with the calls. I chalked it up to it being Madison Square Garden and they're the Knicks but I guess I should of stuck with my gut.
